The Simply Mad Throw
by Charissa Ragsdale of Mad Mad me.
This is a very simple pattern. Using basic stitches, double strands and frequent color changes this SIMPLE project really packs a punch. Although this would be considered a Beginner pattern, I think that just about any level of crocheter will have fun playing with the gradient colors. There are TWO "panels" worked in this project. The first panel works lighter colors around a dark stripe and the second panel reverses this to work the darker colors around a light stripe. The stitches never change! The only thing that changes is which color yarn you "load" the hook with. Let's begin... Yarn type: Anne Geddes, Baby by Red Heart (Weight 3) 0The Anne Geddes Baby yarn, when doubled up, creates a VERY thick cushioned blanket that would be a great play mat or nap blanket for little ones. It is also very warm for chilly laps and feet. O DOUBLED! Use two strands for entire body of pattern. ·Hook size: 5.5mm 0 If using a heavier weight yarn, move up to a 6mm or 6.5mm hook to achieve the same texture and fabric. ● Dimensions of finished throw: 48" x 51" ·Stitches required: ·Ch=chain · Ch Sp or St Sp = chain space or stitch space: insert hook below space under chain when called for · SI st = slip stitch: Insert hook, YO, pull through Sc = single crochet: Insert hook, YO, pull through, YO, pull through 2 loops. 2 ch picot = picot made with 2 chains rather than 3. To Picot: Chain 2, sl st into second ch from hoo sc in next st
Here are the tables included in this pattern:
1. Basic Stitch Pattern & "how to " photos
a. This is a very basic written pattern. You will be repeating Row 2 several times (180 to be exact) to create this blanket. b. The edging is simple as well and is included in this table.
2. Color Groupings
a. This table is also very simple and willserve as a guide to purchasing and organizing your yarn. Don't be shy to try your own color choices, just remember to organize in groups of three colors. b. A "panel" in this pattern is referring to each group of three colors, each panel is worked in 14 rows. c. The colors listed are just DESCRIPTIONS of the colors. These descriptions will help you translate the list from one type/brand of yarn to another. I plan on making this blanket again and will experiment with different types of yarn. Red Heart Soft will be really fun to work with for this project aswell!
3. Complete Row Guide
a. This is a row by row guide to the Simply Mad Throw. The blanket is 181 rows, 13 panels long. Please refer to this table is you would like a step by step approach to the color changes.
