)ok U.S. size H(8) 5.0 mm Yarn Caron Simply Soft or other 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn. Single color version requires approximately 50 yards (46 meters) Gauge Finished square is 6 x 6 in. (15.25 x 15.25 cm). This pattern uses standard US crochet abbreviations

Directions

Round 1: Start with a sliding loop; ch3 (counts as 1dc); work 11dc in the loop; sl st in the top of the ch3 and tighten loop (12 dc total). Round 2: ch4 (counts as 1dc and ch1); [dc in next st, ch1] repeat to end of round; sl st in the top of the beginning ch4 (24 sts total). Round 3: ch3 (counts as 1dc); [2dc in ch1 space, dc in next st] repeat to end of round ending with 2dc in last ch1 space; sl st in the top of the beginning ch3 (36 dctotal). Round 4: ch1; [sc in next 6 sts, 2sc in next st] repeat to end of round; sl st in beginning ch1 (40 sc). Round 5: [ch4; skip 1sc; sc in next st] repeat to end of round with last sc going into the base of the beginning ch4. You should have 20 ch4 spaces. Round 6: sl st in ch4 space; [ch5, sl st in same space, (ch3, sl st in next ch4 space) 5 times] repeat 4 times ending with a sl st in the beginning ch4 space. Round 7: sl st in ch5 space; ch6 (counts as 1tr and ch2); 2tr in same ch5 space; [3dc in next ch3 space; 3hdc in next ch3 space; 3sc in next ch3 space; 3hdc in next ch3 space; 3dc in next ch3 space; (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in next ch5 space] repeat to end of round ending with 1tr in beginning ch5 space; sl st to the top of the ch6. Round 8: ch5 (counts as 1dc and ch2); 2dc in ch2 space; [dc in next 19 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch2 space] repeat 3 times; dc in next 19 sts; dc in beginning ch2 space; sl st to the top of the ch5. (Note: you can use hdc instead on this row if dc makes the square too big). Fasten off, leaving a 12 - 18 in. (30 - 45 cm) tail for sewing.
