Simple ribbed socks with a (purl) twist!

These socks arenamed after the beautiful Cape Sounion in Greece. Undecided on a name for this design, I started looking at the pictures that I had taken of these socks. The coloumn-like rib made me think about the ancient coloumns throughout the Mediterranean which, combined with the colour of the yarn, instantly reminded me of my visit to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. Ah, the view!
Materials
Yarn
Skein Top Draw Socks 437 yards/400 meters in 95g 85% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon 1 skein, shown in the Static colourway.
Needles
2.25mm/Us 1 circular needles or dpns
Other
Three stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends. Sizing Women S (M, L, XL) Men XS (S, M, L)
Gauge
Approx 8sts = 1"/2.5cm in stockinette stitch
Cuff
Using your favourite stretchy cast-on method (l used a cable cast on) co 56 (64, 72, 80)sts, arrange sts on needles as preferred and begin 2x2 rib asfollows: All rounds: \*k2, p2\* to end Repeat 2x2 ribuntil cuff measures 1.5"/4cm or desired length.
Leg
Begin Twisted Purl Rib pattern as follows: Round 1: k all sts Round 2: \*k2,p2tog leave sts on left needle,insert right needle from back to front between these two sts,p second stitch again,slipboth sts off needle. Repeat above two rounds until leg measures 6"/15cm or desired length.
Heel Flap
Work slipped stitch heel flap over the next 28 (32, 36, 40)sts as follows: Row 1 (R.S): \*sl 1, k1\* repeat to end Row2 (W.S): \*sl 1, p1\* repeat to end. Repeat above rows 15 times more (total of 32 rows).
Turn Heel
Row 1 (RS): s1 1, k 15 (17, 19, 21), k2tog, k1 -turn Row 2 (WS): sl 1, p5, p2tog, p1 - turn Row 3 (RS): sl 1, kto 1st before gap, k2tog, k1 - turn Row 4: (Ws): sl1, pto 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1 -turn Repeat rows 3 and 4 until there is only one stitch remaining after the gap, then: (R.S): sl 1, kto 1 st from gap, k2tog - turn (W.S): sl 1, pto 1 st before gap, p2tog There are now 16 (18, 20, 22) heel stitches.
Gusset
Note: As you pick up sts for the gusset, arrange sts on needles as preferred. Set up: k across heel flap, pick up and k 16 sts along the side of the heel flap, pm, continue Twisted Purl Rib pattern as established along the top of the foot, pm, pick up and k 16 sts along the side of the heel flap, k8 (9, 10, 11) heel sts, pm. This is now the beginning of the round. Next... Round 1: kto 3 sts from m, k2tog, k1, sm, work Twisted Purl Rib pattern to m, sm, k1, ssk, kto end. Round 2: k to marker, sm, work Twisted Purl Rib pattern to m, sm, k to end. Repeat above two rounds until there is a total of 56 (64, 72, 80)sts
Foot
Continue knitting the foot as established until 2"/5cm less than the desired length.
Toe
Round 1: \*k to 4sts from m, k2tog, k2, sm,k2, ssk, repeat from \* kto end of round. Round 2: k all sts Repeat above two rounds until 28 (32, 36, 40) sts remain. Arrange sts on two needles so that the top of the toe is on one needle and the bottom of the toe is on the other, rm as you go (14 (16, 18, 20) stsoneachneedle). Graft sts together using Kitchener Stitch. Weave in ends.
