This sweater is knit flat and seamed in four pieces. Materials: sock or lace yarn in two colors (Main Color: MC, and Contrast Color: CC) Needles to produce a gauge of 8 to 9 stitches to the inch (16-18 stitches to $5\;\mathrm{cm}$ Finished size is approximately 2 inches $(5\,\mathrm{cm})$ wide by 3 inches $(7.5\;\mathrm{cm})$ high

Directions

Cast on 45 stitches using the two-color cast on. Turn work to the back and p2 MC, ${}^{*}\mathrm{p}1$ CC, plMC\*, repeat between asterisks for the rest of the row until the last two stitches, then p2 MC. Turn work to the front for next row. Row 2: k2MC, $^{*}\mathrm{P}1\mathrm{C}C$ ${\mathrm{K}}1{\mathrm{MC}}^{*}$ , to last two stitches, K2MC. Turn Row 3: P2MC, $^{*}\mathrm{KlCC},$ $\mathrm{P1MC^{*}}$ , to last two stitches, P2MC. Turn Row 4: k2MC, $^{*}\mathrm{P1MC}$ , K1MC\*, to last two stitches, K2MC Row 5: purl row in MC Row 6: begin chart for stitches 1 to 23. Stitches 24-45 should be knit stockinette in MC throughout. Rows 6 to 26 form chart Row 22 (back side): cast off first stitch, P21, cast off 2, P21 Row 23 (right side): Cast off 2, K9, K2 together, K9 turn Row 24 (right front shoulder): cast off 1, p8, turn. Row 25: SSK, K6, turn Row $^{26+}$ : Continue in stockinette stitch for an additional half inch $\left(1.5\thinspace{\mathsf{c m}}\right)$ . Cut yarn and place live stitches on a holder. Repeat rows 23 to $^{26+}$ for left front shoulder. Join yarn at left shoulder edge on Knit side at underarm edge. Row 23 (back): Cast off 1 stitch, K to end (20 stitches) Row 24: p2 tog., P to end (19 stitches) Row 25: Cast off 1 stitch, K to end (18 stitches) Row 26: P2 tog., P to end (17 stitches) Row 27: Cast off 1, K to end (16 stitches)

Collar (make one)

Using the 2-color cast on, cast on 21 stitches. Row 1 (inside): p2MC, \*P1CC, P1MC\*, to last 2 stitches, then P2MC. Turn Row 2 (exterior): K2MC, \*P1CC, K1MC\*, to last two stitches, K2MC. Turn Row 3: P2MC, \*K1CC, P1MC\*, to last two stitches, P2MC. Cut CC yarn. Turn Row 4: k2MC, \*P1MC, K1MC\*, to last two stitches, K2MC. Turn Row 5: P2MC, \*K1MC, P1MC\*, to last two stitches, P2MC. Turn Continue in MC K1, P1 ribbing as in rows 4 and 5 until piece measures 1 inch $(2.5\;\mathrm{cm})$ Cast off Continue in stockinette stitch to match front shoulder length with one row left On last row: K7, cast off 2, Kto end. Cut yarn and put live stitches on holders. Later, you willeither graft the live stithes together (using the Kitchener stitch) or use a three-needle bind off.

Assemblage

Arms (make 2)

All seaming is done with mattress stitch, taking advantage of final extra knit stitch on either side of the seams. Sew seams, attach collar to neck, darn in all ends. Voila! Cast on 15 stitches using the 2-color cast on. Turn to form the back side of the sleeve. Row 1 (inside): p2MC, ${}^{*}\mathrm{P}1\mathrm{C}C$ $\mathrm{P1MC^{*}}$ , to last 2 stitches, then P2MC. Turn Row 2 (exterior): K2MC, $^{*}\mathrm{P}1\mathrm{C}C$ ${\mathrm{K}}1{\mathrm{MC}}^{*}$ , to last two stitches, K2MC. Turn Row 3: P2MC, \*K1CC, P1MC\*, to last two stitches, P2MC. Turn Row 4: k2MC, \*P1MC, K1MC\*, to last two Continue in stockinette stitch for $\%$ inch (2 cm), then increase one stitch at each end. (17 st.) Continue in stockinette for another $\%$ inch $\left(2\thinspace\mathrm{cm}\right)$ , increasing again one stitch at each end (19 st). Continue in stockinette stitch for another $\%$ inch $\left(2\thinspace\mathrm{cm}\right)$ , increasing yet again one stitch at each end (21 st). Cast off.
