Using waste sock yarn crochet 72 (or more) stitches to use as the first row. Using MC pick up and knit 72 stitches (making sure not to twist the yarn). Knit 10 rows, on the $11^{\mathrm{th}}$ row do \*yo, k2tog; repeating from \* to end. Knit another 9 rows. Remove the waste yarn and put the stitches on a set of spare needles. Fold the edge over at the ${10}^{\mathrm{th}}$ row and knit into the first set of needles and through the backset of needles.
For Regular Top
Cast on 72 stitches. Make sure not to twist as you knit in the round. Knit one row. $^{\ast}\mathrm{K}2{,}\mathrm{P}2\ ^{\ast}$ . Repeat pattern until cuff measures 1.5-2 inches. Work 2 rows even. Work 13 sts in MC, then symbol pattern, 13 sts in MC, then pattern. Repeat until the pattern has been fully completed. It is best if you use two separate calls of yellow instead of caring it through. Work 10 rows even after the pattern in the MC. Set up to divide for the heel. Heel is worked over 33sts. Put 33sts onto a needle and attach second color. Work in pattern for $2.5^{\circ}$ . Pattern is \*slip, $\mathbf{K}^{*}$ across RS. Flip work and work p across WS. Once $2.5^{\circ}$ has been reach turn the heel. Slip 1, k18sts, ssk, k1. Turn work. Row2: sl 1, p7, p2tog, p1 turn Row3: sl 1, k8, ssk, k1, turn Row 4: sl 1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn Keep working like this until ${\sim}20$ sts remain. Gusset (all done in MC): Pick up and knit stitches evenly across the instep with the MC. Work across front of the foot, and then pick up and knit stitches evenly across the second part of the instep. Now work in repeats of two rows. Row 1: K (on needle 1) up to last three sts. K2tog, k last sts. Knit across front of foot. On needle three k1, ssk, k to end. Row 2: K all around Repeat these two rows until you have an equal number of stitches on needles - needle 1 added to needle 3 should equal the total across the top of the sock. Once this is done knit until you are $1.5^{\circ}$ from the end of the big toe. Change to second color. Row 1: $^{*}\mathrm{K}6{,}\mathrm{K}2\mathrm{tog}^{*}$ repeat \* to \* Row 2: K full round (all even rows are just knit) All odd rows are decreased. Decrease row 3 as k5, k2tog. Row 5 as k4, k2tog. Row 7 as k3, k2tog. Row 9 k2, k2tog. Row $11\,\mathrm{k}1$ ,k2tog.Row $13\,\mathrm{k}2$ tog. Take remaining stitches and stitch toe closed with Kitchener stitch or any other stitch you may like.
