La Dauphine La Dauphiwe By TashBareveld forthe Fighteof a eygarueuk
A pretty sock for late summer, La Dauphine is a simple 4 row lace pattern - while it looks tricky, it is quite a lovely mindless knit.

Patterw:
Cast on 64 stitches. Row 1: \*k1, p1, repeat from \* to end Row 2: Join in round being careful not to twist. \*k1, p1, repeat from \* to end. Using the magic loop method, divide stitches so there are 32 stitches on each needle, with the start of the round as the first division. (i.e. The first stitch on the first needle is the beginning of the round, the last stitch of the second needle is the end of the round) Repeat k1, p1 rib until knitting measures 1cm Lace patterw: Row 1: \*k2, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k1, repeat from \* to end Row 2: knit all sts Row 3: \*k3, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2, repeat from \* to end Row 4: knit all sts

Work lace pattern until leg is of desired length. Sock shown has approx 14 cm of lace pattern. Finish with row4. Heel is now worked back and forth over the next 33 stitches (you will collect the first stitch from the next 'row' at the end of the heel flap row to add the extra stitch if you have divided your 64 stitches into 2 sets of 32.) Row 1: sl1, k1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k to last 7 sts, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k2 Row 2: sl1, p7, \*sl1, p1, repeat from \* to last 8 sts, p to end Row 3: sl1, k2, to, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k to last 6 sts, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k3 Row 4: sl1, p6, \*sl1, p1, repeat from \* to last 7 sts, p to end

peat these 4 rows 8 or 9 times depending on the heel flap length required. Turu heel: Row 1: k18, ssk, k1, turn work Row 2: sl1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn work Row 3: sl1, k to 1 st before gap, ssk, k1, turn work Row 4: sl1, p to 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn work Repeat Row 3 & 4 until 18 stitches remain.
Gwset:
Knit across heel, pick up and knit 18 (or 20) stitches up side of heel, place marker A, knit across top of foot in pattern, place marker B. 0) stitches down side of heel, knit 9, place marker - new beginning of rounc Row 1: Knit to last 2 stitches before maker A, k2tog, slip marker, knit in pattern across top of foot, slip marker B, ssk, knit to end of row. Row 2: Knit to marker A, slip marker, knit in pattern to marker B, slip marker, knit to end of row. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 61 stitches remain (we'll deal with the errant stitch in the toe decreases). The lace makes the gusset quite stretchy, hence decreasing to fewer stitches than you began with. If you like, you can decrease to 63 or 65 rather than 61 stitches. When you have reached 61 stitches, work the lace pattern on the top of the foot and knit all sole stitches. Continue until you reach the start of your toes, or 'toe cleavage'.
Te set wp rownd:
From beginning of round marker, knit to marker A, slip maker, knit to 3 sts before marker B, k2tog, k1, slip marker B, k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker A, k2tog, k1, slip marker A, knit to 3 sts before marker B, k2tog,k1. Marker B is now the beginning of the round. And yes, you do need to decrease twice in a row before marker B - this is dealing with that errant stitch. Toe: Row 1: from Marker B, knit all stitches Row 2: k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker A, k2tog, k1, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker B, k2tog, k1. Continue rows 1 and 2 until 16 stitches remain, ending on row 1. Use kitchener stitch to seam together the toe. Weave in ends and block if desired.
