Row 1: knit to the end of the ndl. Turn the needle around so the cast on edge is on the top of the needle. Pick up 13 sts from the cast on edge (27 sts total) Divide the sts as follows: ndl 1 = 14 sts ndl 2 = 13 sts

Place a safety pin to denote beg of rnd.
TOE:
Rnd 1: Knit Rnd 2: (increase rnd): Ndl 1: k2, m1L, k to 2 sts before end of ndl, m1R, k2 Ndl 2: k2, m1L, k to end, k to 2 sts before end of ndl, m1R, k2 (31 sts total) Rep last 2 rnds until there are a total of 59 sts and knit one last rnd before beginning the foot pattern. Ndl 1 = 30 sts. Ndl 2 = 29 sts.
FOOT:
Begin Chart on ndl 1 and st st on ndl 2. Continue until foot measures 3" less than total foot length.
GUSSET:
Continue to work ndl 1 as established. Ndl 2: k1, m1R, k to 1 st before end of ndl, m1L, k1. Next rnd: knit. Continue to repeat last 2 rnds on ndl 2 until there are 79 sts total (30, 49) ending with an increase rnd (do not knit a non-increase rnd)
HEEL TURN:
You will now be working back and forth in rows with the gusset sts only (ndl 2). The heel turn is worked with short rows as follows: Knit across ndl 1 and leave sts on a holder. Row 1(RS): Divide the 49 gusset sts as follows: k15 sts and place on holder, k19 , place rem 15 sts on another holder. TURN. Row 2(WS): sl1, p to 1 st before the end of the ndl. TURN. Row 3: sl1, k to 1 st before the end of the ndl. TURN. Row 4: sl1, p to 1 st before the end of the previous row. TURN. Row 5: sl1, k to 1 st before the end of the previous row. TURN. Rep last 2 rows until you sl1, k6. TURN. Next Row (WS): sl1, p6, (m1P, p1) to the end of the ndl. TURN. Next Row (RS): sl1, k to where short row turn sts are worked (m1R, k1) to end of ndl. TURN.
HEEL FLAP:
Place 15 sts from each holder onto their own ndls. Row 1: sl1, p to last st. P2tog last st with the first st from heel flap sts. Row 2: sl1, k1, \*sllp, kl: rep from \*, ssk last st with first st from heel flap sts. Rep rows 1 and 2 until all the heel flap sts have been worked (31 sts) You will now resume working in rnds. How to avoid holes at the gusset: Knit across ndl 1. The following hint is done after knitting ndl 1. Pick up 2 extra sts at the top of the gusset. Look for the horizontal thread between the first instep st and the heel-flap. Insert the needle into the left half of the heel-flap st and pick up 1 st; then pick up the right half of the first instep st from the row below the st on the needle. Both of these sts are on the gusset needle. 1 To get rid of the extra sts - on the next rnd ssk last st from ndl 1 with the first picked up st and make sure the st stays on ndl 1. On ndl 2 k the second picked up st together with the next st. At the end of ndl 3 ssk the last 2 sts together.
LEG:
ndl 1: 30 Sts. ndl 2: 30. Next rnd: work Wintertide pattern as established on all needles. Continue in pattern on leg until leg measures 1 1/2 inches less than desired cuff length.
CUFF:
Work k3 p3 ribbing for 1 % inches and cast off loosely in rib. Note: Chart 1 sock I worked k3 p3 ribbing. Chart 2 sock I reversed it to p3 k3 ribbing. The choice is up to you. Using sharp pointed needle weave in ends. Work second sock using chart 2.
