Materials:
100 gm fingering weight yarn US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles or size to obtain gauge stitch markers tapestry needle Gauge: 8.5 sts & 12 rows/inch in stockinette
Finished Size:
7 1/2" (8 1/2") leg circumference, blocked and relaxed 7 1/2" (8 1/2") foot circumference, blocked and relaxed 6 1/4" cuff length
Notes:
When more than one number is given, the first applies to the medium size and the second to large. The size of the sock can be adjusted by using a smaller or larger needle for a different gauge.
Abbreviations:
sl: slip as if to purl, unless otherwise noted RT (Right Twist): Knit both stitches together, leaving them on the LHN. Knit the first stitch again. LT (Left Twist): Slip 1 stitch knitwise, slip 1 stitch knitwise. Place both stitches back onto left hand needle (LHN). Skip the first stitch and knit into the back of the second, then knit BOTH stitches together through the back of the loop. k3tog: knit 3 sts together. Instructions
Cuff: Loosely cast on 64 (72) stitches. Join, being careful not the twist the stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Work Rounds 1-4 of Cuff pattern (Chart A) for a total of 4 repeats. Repeat Round 1 once more. Set-up Round: \*K7, P1(2); repeat from \* to end of round. Leg: Work Rounds 1-28 of Lace Pattern (Chart B) for a total of 2 repeats. Repeat rounds 1-12 once more. Set-up for Heel and to center Lace Pattern over instep: Row 1: [K7, P1(2)] 3 times, K3. PM to indicate new start of instep. Turn. Row 2 (wrong side): Slip 1, P2, [K1(2), P7] 3 times, K1(2), P3. PM to indicate end of instep. Turn. 33 (37)instep sts/31 (35) heel flap sts Heel: will be worked over 31 (35) sts. Place 33 (37) instep stitches on holder. Heel flap is worked back and forth. Row 1 (right side): Slip 1, LT, [P1(2), K1, Slip 1, K1, Slip 1, K1, Slip 1, K1] 3 times, P1(2), RT, K1. Turn. Row 2: Slip 1, P2, [K1(2), P7] 3 times, K1(2), P3. Turn. Row 3: Slip 1, K2, [P1(2), Slip 1, K1, Slip 1, K1, Slip 1, K1, Slip 1] 3 times, P1(2), K3. Turn. Row 4: Slip 1, P2, [K1(2), P7] 3 times, K1(2), P3. Turn. Turn Heel:
Row 1 (wrong side): Slip 1, P17 (20), P2tog, P1, turn Row 2: Slip 1, K6 (8), SSK, K1, turn Row 3: Slip 1, P7 (9), P2tog, P1, turn Row 4: Slip 1, K8 (10), SSK, K1, turn Continue working one more stitch until all the stitches have been worked. You should end on a knit row with 19 (21) stitches remaining. Do not turn work. Begin gusset. Note on instep (Chart C): Work Rounds 3-28 (do NOT work Rounds 1-2) of Chart C once. Work Rounds 1-48 of Chart C one more time. Then repeat Round 48 only for pattern. Gusset: Pick up and knit one stitch in each slipped stitch along side of heel. PM to indicate start of instep. Knit 33 (37) instep stitches in pattern as established (Chart C: Start with Round 3). PM to indicate end of instep. Pick up and knit same number of stitches along remaining side of heel. Knit 10 stitches and PM to indicate new beginning of theroundatcenterofheel.
Gusset decreases
Round 1 (decrease round): Knit to last 2 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog. Slip marker, work 33 37) instep stitches in pattern as established. Slip marker, SSK, knit to end of round. Round 2: Knit to first instep marker. Slip marker. Work 33 (37) instep stitches in pattern as established. Slip marker. Knit to end of round. Repeat these two rounds until 64 (72) stitches remain. 33 (37) instep sts/31(35) sole sts. Foot: Continue working as established (pattern stitches on instep and stockinette on the sole) until foot is approximately 1 1/2 (2) inches less than desired foot length. Set-up for toe: Knit to first instep marker. Slip marker. K1, SSK, knit instep stitches in pattern as established to last 3 stitches before second marker, K2tog, K1. Toe:
Round 1: Knit to first instep marker. Slip marker, knit instep stitches in pattern as established. Round 2 (decrease round): Slip marker, K1, SSK, knit across to last 3 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog, k1. Slip marker, K1, SSK, knit instep stitches in pattern as established to last 3 stitches before second marker, K2tog, K1. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until 30 (34) sts remain.
