Found in a modern Japanese pattern book ('knitting patterns book $250^{\circ}$ by Shida Hitomi, Nihon Vogue), some traditional Celtic cable motifs were adapted and modified to work well as twisted stitches in this sock, where they now flow smoothly from cuff to toe.
