CORALICIOUS SOCKS
by Paula McKeever Snapper Knits Toe: Using the Judy's Magic Cast-on, cast on a total of 24 stitches - 12 on each needle. On the next round increase 4 stitches as follows: Round 1: Needle 1: K 1, M1, knit until the last stitch, M1, K1 Needle 2: K 1, M1, knit until the last stitch, M1, K1 Round 2: Then knit a round without increasing. Repeat these 2 rounds until you have a total of 60 stitches. Move last st from Needle 1 to Needle 2. Needle 1 has 29 sts, Needle 2 has 31 sts. Start pattern. Use Chart 1 on Needle 1 (top of foot) and knit all sts on Needle 2 in stockinette. Knit until 3-4 inches from desired length. $(6.5^{\circ})$ , depending on your foot. Wider feed might need only $3^{\,,}$ remaining, and narrower feet less, so knitting the foot a little shorter (to only $4^{\circ}$ ) would be appropriate.
PATTERN NOTES
· Instructions are provided in chart form. · You may use any kind of increases for the M1 stitches. I choose to use Kf-b, but any of the other types of increases work equally well. Just make sure the first and last stitch of the row is a knit stitch. ·The stitch pattern has a lot of elasticity. If you would like a little snugger fit overall, you might want to consider going down a needle size. Knitting a shorter foot also will make it fit more snug. · 350 yards of yarn is just enough for a pair of socks that fit a Ladies size 10.
Chart 1: Top of Foot

Gusset:
Chart 1 & 2 Round 1: Work across Needle 1 (the instep stitches) in pattern. Needle 2: (sole stitches): K1, M1, knit across to the last stitch, M1, K1. Round 2: Work across Needle 1(the instep stitches) in the chart pattern, on Needle 2 knit all stitches. Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 until you have 57 stitches total on Needle 2. Then knit across needle 1 (instep) once.

Turn the Heel: You will work back and forth on the stitches on Needle 2 and will not knit the stitches on Needle 1 while turning the heel. Work as follows: Row 1: (RS) K39, Kfb, K1, w&t Row 2: P 22, Pfb, P1, w&t Row 3: K 20, Kfb, K1, w&t Row 4: P 18, Pfb, P1, w&t Row 5: K 16 Kfb, K1, w&t Row 6: P 14, Pfb, P1, w&t Row 7: K 12, Kfb, K1, w&t Row 8: P 10, Pfb, P1, w&t Needle now holds 65 stitches. On RS, knit to end of needle, knitting each wrap together with the stitch it wraps. Work across instep stitches in pattern, noting the row you are on.
Heel flap: Work back and forth on heel stitches:
Row 1 (RS): K 47 (knitting each wrap together with the stitch it wraps), ssk, turn. Row 2: Slip 1 st as if to purl, p 29, p2tog, turn. Row 3: [slip 1 st as if to purl, k1] 15 times, ssk, turn. Repeat Rows 2-3 until all side stitches have been worked, end having worked row 2. Needle now holds 31 stitches, and you are ready to work a right side row. You will now start working in the round again. If you have a tendency to get holes between the needles, you can pick up a stitch at each side of Needle 2, and decrease them on the next round, but this is optional.. To do the extra stitches, with the wrong side of the heel facing you, pick up and knit your first extra stitch on the left of your work. Turn to the right side of your work, then continue the slip stitch heel pattern across the heel stitches. You can pick up your second extra stitch on the left side of the heel at the end of Needle 2.

If you choose not to do the extra stitches, just knit across the heel stitches in the slip stitch pattern. Next, work the two purl border stitches and move them from Needle 1 back to Needle 2. You will need to do this so that the pattern will work out correctly. Begin using Chart 2 for working the leg, making sure you start on the correct row -- use whatever row comes next. For example, if you last worked row 5 when turning the heel, you will now work row 6. The first stitch on Needle 1 is now the first stitch in Chart 2. Move the remaining stitches around so that you have 24 stitches on Needle 1. Chart 2: Leg

If you added stitches, you will work in the pattern and decrease the extra stitches in the pattern. Work until you come to the first extra stitch, then work a decrease on this stitch by either purling 2 stitches together, or knitting 2 stitches together, depending on what stitch you are on while following the chart. Work until leg measures 1”’ short of desired length. Work K1b, P1 ribbing for $1^{\circ}$ ,and bind off loosely. Elizabeth Zimmerman's sewn bind off is one good choice. Weave in ends.
