Materials...
-100 grams Two Birds Knitting Co's Kick Ass Sock Enchanted Forest -20 grams Two Birds Knitting Co's Kick Ass Sock Hippo Overhaul -2.5mm needles. This pattern was written for magic loop, but can easily be knit using two circular needles or 4 or 5 dpns.

-1 stitch marker -Tapestry needle Gauge... 8.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch I seem to have an affinity for great hand dyed yarn. As I have said before hand dyed yarn can be a tricky thing. You don't want to lose the pattern of the sock in the yarn...and you don't want to lose the yarn in the pattern. This is my version of a vanilla sock.for those skeins that are begging to be knit with just the "barebones". PS it's totally customizable!
Abbreviations...
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together ssk: slip 2 stitches knit wise, one after the other, then knit these two stitches together through the back loop p2tog: purl 2 stitches together \*\*: instructions are worked as a group as specied Cuff... Using main colour loosely cast on 72 stitches. Join in the round and work k2, p1 for 18 rounds (approx 1.5 inches), OR until you reach the desired length. Knit every round until the sock measures 5 inches (approx 65 rounds) from beginning of the leg OR until leg reaches desired length
Heel Flap...
I will give you instructions for 2 different heel fHaps. I prefer to use option 1, but option 2 is very nice as well. It just depends on how you want your sock to look! \*Heel Flap Option #1 The heel fap will be worked over the first 36 stitches in the contrasting colour. Do not cut the main colour just leave it for now and begin working with the contrasting colour. Knit 36 stitches, turn, Sll, purl to end. Begin eye of partridge heel fap pattern Row l: \*sll, kl\* across, end with kl. Row 2: sll, p to end Row 3: sl2, \*k1, sll\* across, end with k2 Row 4: sll, p to end Continue in this pattern until you have worked eye of partridge heel pattern for 32 rows.

\*Heel Flap Option # 2
The heel fap will be worked over the first 36 stitches in the contrasting colour. Do not cut the main colour, just leave it for now and begin working with the contrasting colour. Knit 36 stitches, turn, Sll, purl to end. Begin the heel fap pattern: Row 1: \*Sll, kl\* across, end with kl. Row 2: Sll, purl to end. Repeat rows 1&2 until you have completed 32 rows Row l: sll, k19, ssk, kl, turn Row 2: Sl1, p5, p2tog, pl, turn Row 3: sll, knit to one stitch before the gap, ssk, k1, turn Row 4: sll, purl to one stitch before the gap, p2tog, pl, turn Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all stitches have been worked. The last two rows will end with ssk and p2tog respectively, omitting the kl or n. There are 20 heel stitches. Knit across heel stitches. Cut the contrasting colour.

Gusset... Go back to the start of the round where you last left your main colour. With main colour pick up one stitch at the top of the gusset, then 18 stitches along the edge of the heel fap. Knit the 20 soles stitches. Pick up and knit 18 stitches from along the edge of the heel fHap. Pick up one more stitch at the top of the gusset to help close the gap.
Gusset Decrease...
Round 1: kl, ssk knit to 3 stitches before the end of the needle, k2tog, k1, knit across the instep stitches. Round 2: knit all soles stitches, knit all instep stitches. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are 36 sole stitches, 72 stitches total. Foot... ery round until foot is 2 inches less than desired length. Cut main colour Toe... Using contrasting colour knit 2 rounds. Round 1: kl, ssk, knit to 3 stitches before the end of the needle, k2tog, k1, at beginning of second needle k1, ssk, knit to 3 stitches before the end of the needle, k2tog, k1. Round 2: knit all stitches Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 24 stitches remain, 12 on each needle. Graft the toe and weave in ends. Repeat and you will have happy feet!
