BRIM:
Loosely cast on 40 (50, 60) stitches using your favourite stretchy cast on method. Try to leave a tail of 10 inches - you'll use this later for seaming. 1st row: \*K1,P1\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. Continue in 1x1 ribbing for 1.5 inches or 4cm - for me this was about 8 rows - or to desired length.
BODY:
1st row (right side): \*K4, kfb\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. [48 (60, 72)stitches] 2nd row (wrong side): Purl across all stitches 3rd row (right side): Knit across all stitches Repeat rows 2 and 3 until work measures 7.5 inches or 19cm (or to desired length) from cast on edge, finishing with a WS purl row. For me this was another 17 rows, so 19 rows of stockinette total.
CROWN:
Crown row 1 (rs): \*k8, k2tog\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. Medium only-[54 stitches] Crown row 2 (ws): Purl across all stitches Crown row 3 (rs): \*K7, k2tog\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. Medium and large only - [(48, 64) stitches] Crown row 4 (ws): Purl across all stitches Crown row 5 (rs): \*K2, k2tog\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. All sizes -[36 (36, 48) stitches] Crown row 6 (ws): Purl across all stitches Crown row 7 (rs): \*K1, k2tog\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. [24 (24, 32) stitches] Crown row 8 (ws): Purl across all stitches Crown row 9 (rs): \*k2tog\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. [12(12, 16) stitches] Crown row 10 (ws): Purl across all stitches Crown row 11 (rs): \*k2tog\*, repeat between \* \* to end of row. [6 (6, 8) stitches] Break yarn, thread onto a needle and pass through remaining stitches, draw tight and fasten off.
FINISHING:
Turn hat inside out and seam together. Weave in ends on wrong side of hat. Make a large bobble and fasten to top of hat on the right side where the last row of stitches are drawn together. Gently wash and block if desired. Wear with pride!
