In order to do that: from the front, pass the left hand needle under the thread between 2 sts, and knit into it with the right hand needle, in the front loop, as if it was a stitch.

Instructions:
With circular needle and variegated yarn, cast on 130 sts. Joining the circle and working around, place marker at the beginning of the round (PM) Knit 1 round, Purl 1 round $(3{\mathrm{~times~}})=3$ ridges of garter Next round, start in pattern (round #1), placing markers every 26 stitches.
Stripes sequence:
12 rounds in MC (variegated yarn), 12 rounds in CC (solid color), 24 rounds in MC 12 rounds in CC 12 rounds in MC , then, with MC: (Knit 1 round, Purl 1 round) 3 times, Bind off.
