A delightfully simple footlet for baby knit with worsted weight yarn or 2 strands of fingering yarn held together. Start off knitting flat, and then join to complete the footlet in the round. What a great gift and stash buster! Yarn: 25 yards (22 meters) Worsted Weight yarn Needles: Set of 4 or 5 dpn's, sz 5US (3.75mm) Notions: Darning Needle $\mathtt{G a u g e}\colon6\;s\dag s\times7\;s\dag s=1\times1^{\prime}$ Size: 0-3 months $=3^{\prime\prime}$ from heel to toes
Abbreviations:
$k=k n i+$ P= purl K2tog $\underline{{\underline{{\mathbf{\delta\pi}}}}}$ knit 2 sts together P2tog $\underline{{\underline{{\mathbf{\delta\pi}}}}}$ purl 2 sts together K1fb $\underline{{\underline{{\mathbf{\delta\pi}}}}}$ knit 1 st into the front and second st into back of same st Ssk $\underline{{\underline{{\mathbf{\delta\pi}}}}}$ slip 2 sts individually knitwise, then knit together BLCO $\underline{{\underline{{\mathbf{\delta\pi}}}}}$ backward loop cast on Cast on 9 sts. Rows 1 & 2: Knit across. Row 3: [K1, k1fb]4 times, end with k1. (13 sts total) Row 4: Knit across This completes the Top of Heel border. To Make Heel: Row 1: K1, purl to last st, k1. (wrong side) Row 2: knit across. Repeat rows 1 & 2 another 3 times. To Shape Heel: Row 1: (Wrong side)P6, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 2: K2, k2tog, k1, turn. Row 3: P3, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 4: K4, k2tog, k1, turn. Row 5: P5, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 6: K6, k2tog (7 sts) Break yarn. With the right side of work facing and top of heel border to your right, with a new needle, pick up7 sts at the side of the heel, join yarn and knit these sts. Knit the 7 heel sts onto second needle. With a 3rd needle, pick up and knit 7 sts at side of heel and knit. 21 sts on 3 needles. Next Row: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k 2. Keeping border of 2 knit sts at each end of needles 1& 3, continue even in stockinette st for 6 more rows, starting with a knit row and ending with a purl row. Next Row: K2, k1fb, knit to last 3 sts, k1fb, k2. Continuing with same dpn, BLcO 4 sts next to sts just worked, join and knit next 5 sts onto same needle. On new needle, k5. kifb: on next needle, k7. You should have 28 sts on 3 needles (14 sts across front $\@$ instep and 7 sts on each of 2 back Knit around 3 times.
Toe Decrease:
Make sure your stitches are distributed as follows: starting at the center of the top/instep, 14 sts on Needle 1; at the foot bottom: (7) 8 sts on Needle 2, and the last (7) 8 sts on Needle 3.
Needle 1: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1. Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end. Needle 3: knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.
Round 2: Knit around. Alternate rounds 1 and 2 until 16 stitches remain on needles. Arrange 8 sts on each of 2 needles.
Kitchener Toe:
Break off the yarn leaving about a 12" length. Thread onto a darning needle (DN). Hold the needles parallel to each other with the top of the slipper facing you: 1: Run the DN knitwise through the first stitch of the front needle and slip it off. Run the DN through the next stitch on the front needle purlwise and do not slip it off. 2: Run the DN through the first stitch on the back needle purlwise and slip it off. Run the DN through the next stitch on the back needle knitwise and do not slip it off. Repeat these two steps until only one stitch remains on each needle. Run the tapestry needle through the front needle st knitwise and slip it off: run the tapestry needle through the back needle st purlwise, slipping it off the needle. Slip the needle and yarn to the inside of the toe. Weave in loose ends. Enjoy!
