Kirk Ave Tam

MATERIALS
1 skein Malabrigo Yarn Rios (worsted weight, 100% merino, 210 yards in 100g). Size 7 (4.5mm) 16" circular needles.
BEGIN
CO 80 stitches. To make the tam larger or smaller, add or subtract in sets of 10 and add or subtract 3 accordingly from the number of K stitches before K2TOG in hat decreases.
HAT BAND
Row l: Purl. Row 2 (and all even rows): Knit. Row 3: Purl. Row 5: [K2tog, yo] to end. Rows 7 & 9: Purl. Rows 1l, 13, 15: [Ssk, yo] to end. Rows 17 & 19: Purl. Rows 21, 23, 25: [Yo, k2tog] t0 end. Rows 27 & 29: Purl. Row 30: [K1, kfb] around (40 sts increased): 120 s
BODY
Work in stockinette (knitting all sts) until hat measures 5 inches from top of hat band (\~7.75" from cast on edge).
STAR DECREASES
1. K22, k2tog around (5x). 2. K21, k2tog around. 3. K20, k2tog around. 4. K19, k2tog around. 5. K18, k2tog around. 6. K17, k2tog around. 7. K16, k2tog around. 8. K15, k2tog around. 9. K14, k2tog around. 10. K13, k2tog around. 11. K12, k2tog around. 12. Kll, k2tog around. 13. K10, k2tog around. 14. K9, k2tog around. 15. K8, k2tog around. 16. K7, k2tog around. 17. K6, k2tog around. 18. K5, k2tog around. 19. K4, k2tog around. 20. K3, k2tog around. 21. K2, k2tog around. 22. K1, k2tog around. 23. K2tog around. 5 sts remain. Cut yarn, leaving 6" tail. Pull yarn end through remaining sts. With leftover yarn, make tassel! Secure tassel to hat with 6" tail. Weave in all ends.
