ABBREUIATIONSUSED:
k = knit p = purl k2tog = knit two together co = cast on bo = bind off mc = main color CC = contrast color rs = right side WS = wrong side st/sts stitch/stitches tccw = turn work counterclockwise tcw = turn work clockwise ch = chain stitch SC = single crochet stitch slst = slip stitch

mc = black, cc = yellow, rs

mc = black, cc = yellow, ws
PATTERN:
CO 88st (44st with each color) with two color long tail cast on (if you don't know how to do this, you can find several tutorials on you tube), wrap mc around your thumb and cc around your index finger. Now you start working the potholder in doubleface technique, this means, you work both sides at one time. Take care that both yarns are behind the working needle while knitting and in front of the working needle while purling. Start with k1 in mc, now you p1 in cc, this is your first stitch pair! In the color chart below you see the right side of the potholder, every stitch you see needs to be done as a pair, in every pair, the 1st st needs to be k and and the 2nd st needs to be p, untill you reach the last st pair, slip the first st with yarn behind the working needle and the second with yarn in front of the working needle. The Chart shows you the color of every st on the rs, the ws is always the opposite. After reaching the end of row, turn your work. After knitting on the rs, make a tccw, after knitting on the ws, make a tcw. That way your yarn gets twisted at the end and closes your edge, if you wrap first mc and than cc around your index finger.

after row 1 -> rs, mc = yellow, cc = black Read rs rows from right to left and ws rows from left to right!

after row 24 -> halfway through the pattern, mc = yellow, cc = black, rs After row 46 work the bo: k a st pair together (k2tog) with mc, k the next st pair togehter (k2tog) with cc and slip the mc st over the cc st, move on till you reach the end of row, k1 with both colors at the same time through last st. Don't cut the yarn, if you want a loop at the end!
LOOP:
Ch8 and slst in first ch, sc around the loop and slst at the end in the last "v" of the bo-row, cut yarn. Weave in ends and repeat the pattern with twisted colors for the second one, finish and enjoy your new pair of Star Trek Potholders!
