PICKET HAT

YARN: The Fibre Company Road to China Worsted (65% baby alpaca, 15% silk + 10% camel + 10% cashmere. 69yards/50gm skein): citrine, 2 skeins. GAUGE: 16 sts and 25 rnds = 4" in Ribbing after blocking. NEEDLES: 2 - 16" US 8 (4 mm) circular needles and 1 dpn. SIZE: 18" circumference, unstretched, 8" height. NOTIONS: Darning needle, 1 stitch markers. NECESSARY SKILLS: Knitting, purling, three needle bind off.
PICKET
LEFT PLEAT: Transfer next 3 sts to dpn, hold to front of work. Working as in a three needle bind off, k2tog across next 3 sts using 2nd circular ndl - 3 sts dec'd. RIGHT PLEAT: Transfer next 3 sts to dpn, hold to back of work. Working as in a three needle bind off, k2tog across next 3 sts using 2nd circular ndl - 3 sts dec'd. DIRECTIONS: Using circs, CO 72 sts. Join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts. PM indicating beg of rnd. Rnd 1: \*K3, p6, k3; rep from \* around. Work rnd 1 until piece meas 8" from CO edge (or desired height of hat). )RK PLEAT: \*Work Left Pleat, work Right Pleat; rep from \* across - 36 s FINISHING: Slide first 18 sts onto dpn. Holding dpn to the front, and circ to the back, work kitchener stitch to close seam, pulling as tightly as possible to increase crown gathers. Break yarn, fasten off. Weave in ends. Steam block to measurements.
