Socks That Rock Yer Noggine
by Deborah Tomasello

When you buy the yummy BlueMoon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock yarn to knit your favorite stranded socks, like Argylish or Team Spirit Socks, you will receive enough yarn to knit two pairs. But, if you only want one pair of socks, what are you going to do with all that luscious Socks That Rock yarn that's left? Why not knit a Socks That Rock Yer Noggin hat? This yarn is a fine Merino wool with a wonderful hardtwist, which yields great stitch definition. It has a "bounce” that I love and a feel that is a dream to work with. The Socks That Rock Yer Noggin design is knit in a gentle ripple pattern with an easy repeat, allowing you to get into a zen-like flow that makes knitting such a joy. Size: Teen or Adult 21"'- 23" head circumference Materials: One partial skein each of any two BlueMoon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock lightweight nonvariegated Sock Yarn (100% Superwash Merino Wool) 146g and 405 yds/skein One 16" #3 circular needle, four #3 DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge) stitch marker tapestry needle Gauge: 30 stitches and 32 rounds = 4" using #3 needles. Abbreviations: K2TOG = Knit two stitches together. SSK = Slip one stitch, then slip the next. Insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped Stitches and knit them together from this position. M1 = Knit in front loop and then again in the back loop of stitch. Instructions: With circular needle, CO 116 sts with color A. Join to work in round, placing stitch marker and being careful not to twist stitches. Knit six rounds corrugated rib (see CHART A) using color B for knit sts and color A for purl sts. Round 7: Increase round Using color A, and still working the ribbing, inc evenly to 144 sts (knit 2, purl 2 for first 4 stitches, then M1, knit 1, purl 2 around. So that, after the first 4 stitches (no inc here), rather than 2 knit sts followed by 2 purl, you will have 3 knit sts followed by 2 purl sts for a total of 144 sts.) Follow CHART B (6 repeats per round) for 66 rounds, decreasing as indicated and switching to DPNs when necessary. Note that round 45 has only one dec st per repeat ; all subsequent dec rounds have 2 dec sts per chart repeat.(Each dec round after round 45 has 2 decreases next to each other; k2tog for first dec at beginning of chart repeat, and ssk for second each time at end of chart panel repeat.) After round 66, six sts remain. Knit last six sts for 5 rounds; cut yarn leaving a tail several inches long. Move all sts from needles to tapestry needle, and pull tightly. Secure from the inside. Finishing: Tie and trim all yarn ends.
