Cabbage Patch Baby Hat
By: Maddie R. (Ravelry UN: Android211)

It was pretty impossible to find a pattern for this hat that was knit rather than crocheted. 1 ended up making my own pattern using a variety of the ones available online. Materials: 5 - 4mm DPN or small circular needle of same gauge with DPN for increase 1 - skein worsted weight yarn of select hair colour 2 - pieces of ribbon for top of pigtails 2 - pieces of scrap of a different colour to position pigtails 1 -hard cover book C.O. 66sts Brim: Row1- K Row2- Loop sts (see useful video at : http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/loop-stitch-english ) Row3- K2 P2 Row4- Loop sts Row5- K2 P2 Row6- Loop sts Work hat in stockinette stitch until piece measures 3y2" long (note: when working in the round this is a straight knit) Decrease: K6, K2tog until 10 sts remain. K2, K2tog. K2tog round. K4tog and tie off, weaving in ends on the inside of hat.
Pigtails:
Place scrap yarn (different colour) in hat where you want to attach pigtails... this helps to insure that they are even. Using a small to medium hard-covered book (mine was 7%") wrap yarn around 30-45 times length-wise around a book (the more wraps the thicker the pigtail), cut yarn at bottom when done. Taking a 3" piece of yarn tie at top of book around the wrapped strands, making sure to secure tightly. Then cut across wrapped yarn at opposite end of book. Congratulations you've made your first pigtail (basically a giant pom-pom), now make another (you need 2). Using the ends from your 3" pieces attach pigtails where scrap yarn in hat is, making sure to weave inends. Next take 4 pieces of 3" yarn, tie to pigtail approx. 1%" from top and 2" from that DO NOT CUT TIES... incorporate them into your pigtails. Attach two ribbons of choice at the top of pigtails Congrats! You've completed the hat.
