Cruciferous COWo by Deborah Tomaselo DOUBLE-SIDEDCOWL

Modeled by Carree's beautiful daughter, Zoe This sweet, two-sided cowl just looks like red and green cabbage to me. The design is on the on the front, and a silky, tonal stockinette is worked on the back. Inji Kismet Fibers stars Carree, and Carree's choice of bases are nothing short of luxurious. The silk blends in these yarns have a wonderful sheen, making the cowl shimmer and shine. The cowl has wonderful drape and feels great against the skin. Inji Kismet Fiber is a joy to work with! Sizes: Short 5.5" x 22.5" circumference. Long 5.5" x 45" circumference. Cowl shown in cover pic measures 45"around.

Materials:

Short: 1/2 skein each of Inji Kismet Fibers: Shukumei Sock Screamin Mimi 100g-438 yds (70% Superwash Merino/30% Silk) Inji Kismet Fibers: Maejirase Silk Sock In the Grass 100g-438 yds (50% Superwash Merino/50% Silk) Long: 1 skein each of the above (Cover cowl is 45" around.) One 21" (29") circular #4 needle stitchmarker tapestry needle Gauge: Gauge is unimportant here. INSTRUCTIONS: Using In the Grass and a provisional CO, CO 128 (256) sts, placing marker at the round beginning. If you do not plan to graft edges closed, but opt to add the crocheted chain edging, there is no need for a provisional CO. Join to beginning being careful not to twist sts. Work chart, 4 (8) repeats per round, for 45 rounds. Drop In the Grass and continue knitting stockinette wth Screamin Mimi for 45 rounds, or until back matches front. If you did a provisional CO, Graft closed, using Kitchener stitch. If you want to add the chain edging, BO, and proceed as follows: With crochet hook, attach Screamin Mimi to first loop of first CO st. Also pick up matching loop from BO round. Draw yarn through both loops. Chain 18, skip next loop on CO and BO rounds, but \*put hook through both front and back loops of next st. Slip st. Chain 18, skip a loop, and repeat from \* around. This creates the crocheted edging as you close yup the seam. Once all the way around, secure and detach Screamin Mimi. Attach In the Grass, and in the every-other loops skipped last time around, repeat the slip st, chain 18 process, crossing the green over and under the purple so neither color is completely on top or underneath. See close up photo below. Finishing: Tie and trim all yarn ends. Wash and block flat so that the piece is blocked in half, with the front having design, and the back in stockinette. Or steam press flat with a damp cloth between iron and cowl. Do not let iron touch yarn directly. Make sure edges are crisp and flat.
