Left sleeve: On right side row, divide stitches for sleeves and body of sweater as follows: K15 sts for left front and place on a holder; k18 sts for sleeve. Place remaining stitches onto a holder and work the left sleeve as follows: stockinette stitch for 6 rows, knit 3 rows, bind off. Right Sleeve: Put stitches from the second holder back onto the needle, knit across the back stitches, place them onto a holder, knit across 18 sts for the right sleeve, place remaining front stitches onto another holder. Finish right sleeve in same manner as left sleeve. Join body stitches: Slip stitches from the right front onto the needle, knit across, turn. Purl across the right front stitches, purl across the back stitches, then purl across the left front stitches. Being careful to keep the 4 edge stitches on each front in garter stitch as established, work stockinette stitch across the 53 body stitches for 4 more rows. Knit 4 rows. Bind off. Sew sleeve seams. Sew seam at top of hood. To complete the sweater, sew one or two buttons on the front garter stitch band and just button the sweater through the stitches on the other band. (No need for buttonholes.) Or crochet a chain and thread it through the neck ribbing and tie in a bow.
