Little Cabbages
Helen's Handmade

Materials
Small quantities of light to worsted yarns in 3 shades of green referred to as colors L (light), M (medium), and D (dark) Small amount of fiberfill stuffing Yarn needle Crochet hook—I used a 1.85 mm (#3 steel) hook. However, use the size hook necessary to prevent filling from showing itch marker or scrap of yarn to mark beginning of rounds

These little cabbages measure approx. 2.5 x 2 x 1.25 inches All terms used are American Crochet: St--Stitch Inc--Increase Rnd--Round Dec--Decrease—I recommend Ch--Chain the invisible decrease Sc--Single Crochet Rep ()--Repeat (x required) Hdc--Half Double Crochet Sl St--Slip Stitch Dc--Double Crochet MR--Magic Ring Each piece of the cabbage is worked in continuous rounds (in spirals), except when directed to do so.
Center of cabbage:
Stuff firmly with fiberfill at this stage Rnd 8--Dec (5 times) (5 Sts) Break yarn and draw through Sts to close. Weave in end, if desired. However, it is not necessary, as the outer leaf piece will cover the yarn tail.

Outer leaf of cabbage:
Begin with lightest green Rnd 1-----With L, 6 Scs in MR [6 Sts] Rnd 2----Inc in each Sc around. [12 Sts) Rnd 3---Inc, Sc (6 times). (18 Sts) Change Color to medium green Rnd 4----With M, Sc, then Sc, Hdc in 1 st, (Hdc, Dc in next 1 st, 2 Dc in next 1 st, 2 Dc in next 1 st, Hdc in next 1 st.) (3 times in all ), Hdc, Dc in next 1 st, 2 Dc in next 1 st, 2 Dc in next 1 st, Dc, Sc in next 1 st, then 1 Sc into first stitch in round. [(35 Sts] Change Color to Darkest green Rnd 5---Ch2 counts as 1st st ,Dc in next 34 sts, Sl St in 1st st in round to join. (35 Sts) Rnd 6—Ch3, Sl st back into 1st st, ch3, Sl st into next St in rnd, ch2, Sl st into next st in round. Continue making random picot chains of either 2 or 3 sts in each picot chain until all Sts are consumed. Break yarn, leaving a 24 inch tail.
Finishing:
Thread long tail of outer leaf with yarn needle and weave tail down into Dc row. Then, working through the Dc posts, weave tail under and over posts all around. Place cabbage center in middle of outer leaf piece and draw outer leaf around center by pulling long tail to ruffle outer piece. Arrange ruffle around center as desired, then tack outer piece to cabbage center.
