RY SOCK VI: COCKTAILS FOR TWC
Cocktails for Two Feet, that is! In this year's Mystery Sock, we'll be exploring a variety of stitches that remind our Designing Brewmistress of some of her favorite cocktails. The instructions for this cuff-down construction are provided in text and chart formats, for DPN, Two Circular Needle, and Magic Loop methods. MYSTERY SOCK CLUE #1 V IS FOR VERMICULAR
vermicular (ver·mic·u·lar) adj. 1. Like a worm in form or movement; particularly those found in a bottle of Mezcal. 2. Marked with close wavy lines.
INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: The right and left socks are designed to be mirror images of each other, and consequently have separate instructions. Also note that the rounds of the right sock begin with the back of the leg and end with the front. The left leg is worked the opposite way - beginning with the front of the leg, and ending with the back. You may want to label your socks accordingly to avoid confusion for now. Cast on 66 (74, 82) sts using the Long Tail Cast On, or a stretchy cast on such as :he Estonian Cast On'. Distribute as follows:

MYSTERY SOCK CLUE #2 LET IT FLOW
flow (flo) v. 1. To move as a liquid does; move in a stream, like intoxicating fluids pouring from a bottle. 2. To have smooth and pleasing continuity. NOTE: As you work this Clue, your sts will be flowing around your socks. You will find it necessary to periodically redistribute mid-round sts among your needles to keep your work manageable. Please keep the first sts of each round at the beginning of your first needle, and the last sts of the round at the end of your last needle. Don't worry about how many sts are on each of your needles at the end of Clue 2 - we'll deal with that later on...

Finishing the Right Leg
Finish your leg to the desired length by working the following 6 rounds as many times as you like. It is recommended that you work the 6 rounds at least once - most people like their socks to be 6" to 7" high from the topof theheel. Work the rounds as follows: ● Work the first 28 sts in the Back of Leg Rib pattern shown below in text and chart. Important! The Narrow size will start this pattern on Row 3. The Medium size will start this pattern on Row 5. The Wide size will start this pattern on Row 1. ● Knit the next 2 (10, 18) sts. ● Continue working the next 21 sts in the Teeny Tini Stitch Pattern.

MYSTERY SOCK CLUE #5 DON'T LOSE YOUR FOOTING
footing (foot-ing) n 1. A foundation or basis for further advancement or development. 2. A stable secure position for or placement of the feet when standing, walking, or sipping cocktails.
st - some math to calculate how long the foot section of your sock needs to be.
1. Using the Stockinette Stitch section of the sole of your sock, measure how many rows are in 2 inches. Estimate rows to one decimal place (ex. 22.5 rows ) rows 2. Divide this number by 2 (ex. 11.3 rows ) rows/inch 3. Solve the following size-specific equation: (ex. 18 divided by 11.3 rows per inch = 1.6 inches) Narrow: 14 divided by rows/inch = inches answer #2 Medium: 18 divided by rows/inch = inches answer #2 Wide: 22 divided by rows/inch = inches answer #2 4. Now add 0.3 inches to your answer #3 (ex. 1.6 inches + 0.3 inches = 1.9 inches ): inches NOTE: This is the negative ease for your sock - if you like more or less ease, you can adjust this number accordingly. 5. Finally, subtract answer #4 from your foot length (ex. 9.75 inches minus 1.9 inches = 7.85 inch foot section) inchesminus inches= inch footsection foot length answer#4 INSTRUCTIONS: Notes: 1) Going forward, the sts on your Heel Needle(s) are going to be referred to as the Sole of Foot sts. 2) For each foot round, knit the 28 (32, 36) Sole of Foot sts on Needle 1 (or DPNs 1 and 2). (In other words, work the Sole of the Foot in Stockinette Stitch.) Work the Top of Foot sts following the instructions in Top of Foot Sections One and Two as follows: Top of Foot Section One: Worked the same for Right and Left Foot. Continue working the 30 (32, 36) Top of Foot sts in the established patterns. End after approximately 2 to 2-1/2 inches of knitting, AND after you have just finished Teeny Tini pattern Round 12.
