Vadleany Socks
Named after forest sprites from Hungarian folkore. The only way to catch them is to trick them into putting on a pair of boots.
Materials needed:
One Skein Jitterbug by Collinette (Sample is knit in Lagoon colorway) 2-16 circulars in size 2 (3.0 mm) or size required to meet gauge. Stitchmarkers TapestryNeedle Gauge: 7 stitches per inch in St st. Sock has a width of 9 inches as written. Note: The size of the sock may be changed by eliminating or adding18 stithes orby changing the size of the needles and yarn.

Cast on 62 stitches onto a single circular needle using the German Twisted cast on. Space stitches onto 2 circs, and join in the round, careful not to twist. Work in 1x1 twisted rib (K1 TBL, P1) until the piece measures 1.5 inches or the length desired. Work in Fern Lace pattern over each needle until the piece measures 4 inches or the desired length for the cuff ending with row four of the pattern.
Fern Stitch in the Round:
Rl: Knit all stitches. R2: K3, \*YO, K2, Slip 1, K1, pss0, K2tog, K2, yo, K1; repeat from \* to last stitch on the needle, K1. Repeat for needle 2. R3: Knit all stitches R4: K2, \*YO, K2, Slip 1, K1, pss0, K2tog, K2, yo, K1; repeat from \* to the last 2 stitches on the needle, K2. Repeat for needle 2.
Heel Flap Pattern:
Working just on needle one, create the heel flap. R1: Slip 1,\*P1, K1 TBL; repeat from \* until 1 stitch remains, K1 TBL R2: Slip 1,\*K1, P1; repeat from \* until 1 stitch remains, K1
