Supplies: Yarn: any fingering or light fingering yarn Needles: 4 U.S. size 1 dpns or size to obtain gauge Other supplies: yarn needle and a button GAUGE: 10 stitches per inch Cast on 30 stitches using 2 dpns held together. Using 2 dpns allows the top of the pocket to have more stretch. I use the long tail cast on, but you can use any cast on that you're comfortable With. Distribute stitches evenly on 3 dpns. Join in the round making sure not to twist the cast on edge. Round 1: k; round 2: p. Repeat these two rounds 2 more times. Knit in stockinette stitch until piece measures 3 1/2 inches. Redistribute stitches so that there are 15 stitches each on two needles. Bind off using the 2 needle bind off. If you prefer you can bind off normally and sew bottom closed. For the strap, turn piece inside out and pick up and knit 9 stitches across the center back on the first purl ridge. Next row: knit one, purl one across, repeat this row, creating a moss stitch pattern, until strap measures 2 inches. Next row: k2tog, k1, pl, k1, p1, kl, p2tog Next row: p2tog, p1, k1, p1, k2tog Next row: k2tog, k1, p2tog Bind off last 3 stitches, don't pull yarn through last stitch, keep loop active. Crochet: Using the active loop, chain 12 (or twice the length of your button), turn, skip first stitch, single crochet in each stitch. cut yarn and pull through? sew into a loop. Weave in ends and sew on button. Copyright @ 2009 Sara Bird by Sara Bird This example uses Knit Picks Felici coney Island
