Gauge:
Size 2 needle: 33 st = 4" (8.25 st = 1"); 21.5 rows = 2" Always work a gauge swatch! Adjust gauge with a change in needle size. Yarn amounts have a knitted swatch factored in. Notes: Increases: kfb or pfb, unless otherwise instructed. Decreases: k2tog or p2tog, unless otherwise instructed. Pintuck Pattern: (k1bel, k1, pK1oK2) K1 in stitch below the first stitch left needle. K1 stitch on left needle. On right needle pass the prior or first knitted stitch over the last or second knitted stitch.


Hat #1:

With size 2 circular needles and MC yarn, using Judy's Magic Cast On, cast on 3 stitches on each needle. (There are many good You Tube videos on this type of cast on, I recommend Very Pink Knits) Row 1: Inc 1 in each stitch Row 2: \*Inc 1, k1\* across row. Row 3: \*lnc 1, k2\* across row. Row 4: \*lnc 1, k3\* across row. Row 5: \*Inc 1, k4\* across row. Row 6: \*lnc 1, k5\* across row. Cont with this pattern until you have k20 between the increases and it measures 4" diameter. BO loosely. Lightly steam block piece.

With WS facing, with MC yarn pick up 111 sts (the portion of the edge where stitches are not picked up becomes the lower back of neck edge of hat). Working back and forth, begin with the Quilted Lattice pattern by Barbara G. Walker, A Treasury of Knitting Patterns: Row 1: With RS facing, k2, \*sl 5 wyif, k1; rep from \*, k1. Row 2: Purl all WS rows. Row 3: K4, \*insert needle under loose strand and knit next st, bringing st out under strand; k5; rep from \*, end last repeat, k4. Row 5: K1, sl 3 wyif, \*k1, sl 5 wyif; rep from \*, end with k1, sl 3, wyif, k1. Row 7: K1, \*k next st under loose strand, k5; rep from \*, end last repeat, k1. Repeat rows 1 - 8, twice more. Begin Pintuck pattern: Row 1: K1, \*k1bel, k1, pK1oK2, p2\*, repeat from \* across row, end with k1. Row 2: K1, \*p1, k2\*, repeat from \* across row, end with k1. Repeat row 1 and 2 until Pintuck Pattern until hat measures 4" from front edge to the join seam. Finish front edge with I cord bind off: Cable cast on 3 stitches onto the needle with live stitches. \*K2, k2tog tbl. Slip the 3 stitches of right needle back onto left needle.\* Repeat from \* until only 3 sts remain, k3tog tbl. Leave this 1 st on right needle, turn and begin to pick up stitches along the bottom edge of the hat, including the 2 edge stitches of the I cord edge of the front finishing. Turn and begin I cord bind off. \*P2,p2tog. Slip the 3 stitches of the right needle back onto left needle.\* Repeat from \* until only 3 sts remain, p3tog, put yarn through, cut. Weave in yarn tails. Attach I cords or ribbon for ties.



Hat #2:

With size 2 circular needles and MC yarn (Il used the blue yarn as MC and white as CC), using Judy's Magic Cast On, cast on 3 stitches on each needle. (There are many good You Tube videos about this type of cast on, I recommend Very Pinks Knits) Row 1: Inc 1 in each stitch Row 2: \*lnc 1, k1\* across row. Row 3: \*lnc 1, k2\* across row. Row 4: \*lnc 1, k3\* across row. Row 5: \*lnc 1, k4\* across row. Row 6: \*lnc 1, k5\* across row. Cont with this pattern until you have k20 between the increases and it measures 4" diameter. Bind off loosely (As an option, BO with CC). Lightly steam block piece. Begin Pintuck Pattern, with WS facing, with MC yarn pick up 115 sts (the portion of the edge where stitches are not picked up becomes the lower back of neck edge of hat). Row 1(RS): K1, \*k1, p2\*, repeat from \* until one st remains, k1. Row 2 (WS): K1, \*p1, k2\*, repeat from \* until two sts remains, p1, k1. Row 3: K1, \*k1bel, k1, pK1oK2, p2\*, repeat from \* across row, end with k1. Row 4: K1, \*p1, k2\*, repeat from \* across row, end with k1. Repeat row 3 and 4 until hat measures 1.5" from the join seam. Begin knitting garter stitch (knit all rows) in MC yarn until hat measures 3.5" from the join seam. (You can make stripes in the garter stitch section by alternating knitting 2 rows with MC followed by knitting 2 rows with CC) With RS facing, begin short row for brim, k69 sts, turn, k23 sts, bring yarn to front, slip last stitch. \*Turn, k2 tog tbl, knit to last stitch of the short row, bring yarn to front, slip last stitch.\* Repeat from \* 4 more times. Turn, k18, bring yarn in front, slip last stitch. Turn k19, pick up 4 sts in the back leg of each slipped stitch along side of brim edge, k46. Turn, k69, pick up 4 sts in the front leg of each slipped stitch along side of brim edge, k45 sts, detach MC yarn. Attach CC yarn, with RS facing, begin I cord bind off of front and brim by casting on 3 sts. \*K2, k2tog tbl. Slip the 3 stitches of the right needle back onto left needle.\* Repeat from \* until only 3 sts remain, k3tog tbl. Leave this 1 st on right needle, turn and begin to pick up stitches along the bottom edge of the hat, including the 2 edge stitches of the I cord of the front finishing. Turn and begin I cord bind off. \*P2, p2tog. Slip the 3 stitches of the right needle back onto left needle.\* Repeat from \* until only 3 sts remain, p3tog, pull yarn through, cut. Weave in yarn tails. Attach I cords or ribbon for ties.
