Yarn Used: Chunky weight yarn in 3 colors (one skein of colors 1 and 2, 12 skein of color 3) or 2-1/2 skeins of a single color. Sample cowl was knit using Lionbrand Jiffy (3 oz/85 g, 135 yd/123 m) chunky weight yarn in charcoal, silver and white. Other Tools: stitch marker, darning needle Gauge: Not significant for this project but the gauge for the sample cowl was 15 stitches x 18 rows for a 4" square knit using US #10 needles.
Abbreviations Used:
K - knit P-purl YO - yarn over With US 10.5 needles, cast on 132 stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round in preparation for knitting in the round. Taking care to not twist stitches, join to begin knitting in the round. 1. [K2, p2] around. Repeat until 2" from cast-on edge. 2. Changing to US 10 needles, knit 3 more rounds of [k2, p2] ribbing. 3. Knit one round, followed by one round of purl 4. Repeat step 3 twice more. 5.Knit 4 rounds. 6. [YO, k2, pass YO over the 2 knit stitches, k2] around 7. Knit around for 2 rounds. 8. [K2, YO, k2, pass YO over the 2 knit stitches] around 9. Repeat step 7. 10. Repeat steps 6 and 7. 11. Change to color B and knit one round. 12. Repeat steps 6 and 7. 13. Repeat step 8 and 9. 14. Repeat steps 6 and 7. 15. Repeat steps 8 and 9. 16. [K9, k2tog] around. - 120 stitches remaining. 17. Knit around. 18. [K2, p2] around. Repeat until ribbing measures 1". 19. Knit around. 20. [K8, k2tog] around. - 108 stitches remaining. 21. Knit around. 22. Changing to color 3, [k2, p2] around. 23. Continue ribbing for 3 more rounds. 24. [K2, p2tog] around. - 81 stitches remaining. 25. [K2, p1] around. Repeat until ribbed band in color 3 1 26. Using US # 10.5 needle, bind offloosely in ribbing. 27. Secure and weave in yarn ends.
