Doll's Lacy Shells Poncho

A lacy 18 inch doll poncho, designed as a spring cover up for American Girl Kit. Materials: Worsted weight yarn Size K (10.5/6.50 mm) crochet hook Gauge: Not essential. Neck opening should measure about $5\;\%$ inches. If poncho seems short after Round 6, add another round of shells before the optional border. Abbreviations: Base ch/hdc: half double crochet base chain Ch: chain Ch-sp: chain space, opening where there was a chain in the row below Dc: double crochet Rnd: round Sc: single crochet Sl st: slip stitch St: stitch Stitch Patterns: Starting Shell: ch4, (dc, ch1) 2 times, dc, all in same space Shell: (dc, ch 1) 3 times, dc, all in same space V Stitch: dc, ch1, dc, all in same space Tips: The poncho is worked from the neck down. The instructions use a half double crochet base chain to start. An alternate start is chain 42, start in the second chain from the hook and hdc in each chain (40 sts), join, and start at Round 1.
