Roll the dice - Marvel Comics style
Some day in November 2013 I stood in front of my DVD and BluRay collection with a problem: Out of my favorite shows, which one should I watch? I had no clue and decided to make some kind of "decision helper", I'm a crafter, so this should be easy. Quite quickly the inspiration fairy hit and one word made its way out of my mouth: Dice! I knew that I didn't want the thing to be too big, 30x30 stitches had to be enough and I chose to knit the thing. So I fired up my fancy chart design tool (... well, I clicked on the Excel icon..) and started thinking of symbols, that stand for shows, superheros, characters, fractions... the next days, I made up enough charts for 8 or 9 diceofdifferent topics: DC Superheros (Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter) Marvel Avenger Characters (Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow/Hawkeye, Captain America, Thor, Loki, Avengers, Fantastic 4, Deadpool, Magneto, X-men, Spiderman, Shield) TV Shows (Sherlock, Dr Who, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Supernatural, Firefly) Movie Franchises (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Potter, Bond, Alien, Hunger Games) Starkid Productions (AVPM, AVPS, B@man, Starship, MAMD - waiting for something twisted :D) Star Wars Symbols (Empire, Rebellion, Jedi, Sith, Mandos, Seps) my fav Books (In the making) you see, some of them are not "decision helpers" but just for fun. This Pattern is for the Marvel Comics Version of the dice. The other versions will find their way to ravelry.com as well(the DC Comics version is already online)

You will need:
Knitting needles size 4,5 (US 7) Yarn in the colors of the logos you chose below. I used pretty standard cotton yarn. Sewing thread (if you want them to be perfect you'll need different colors) Lining Material (felt, fleece, something to keep the shape) FillingMaterial The dice will be roughly 13 by 13 by 13 cm big (5 by 5 by 5 inches). If you use different needles/yarn, then the sizewill vary.
Instructions:
Chose 6 patterns below (or design your own, a blank square is added at the end of the charts) Knit the patterns and weave in the ends

Cut your lining material to squares the size of your knitted pieces Sew your knitted parts to the lining Arrange your patterns: On a real 6 sided die, the opposing sides added up equals 7. So chose which sides look best/make most sense where. In this example: Loki / Thor, Iron Man and his sciencebro Hulk, and Captain America / Shield Agents Romanoff and Barton will be on opposing sides.

I used a contrasting color (black) and I went for the slightly wonky, uneven seam. If you're a perfectionist you can of course always go in a different direction Before sewing the last edge shut, fill the dice. Don't overstuff or it will be more a ball than a cube.

Sew the last edge. That's it. Enjoy your new toy @
