Aj's Pikachu Hat
Background: Well - my 9-year old gamer loves Minecraft and Pokemon, thus a Pikachu hat, without eyes, was on his wishlist for the autumn/winter season. I just had to oblige. I have used Superwash wool from Viking Yarn. This is a sports/5p ply yarn with a 100m/109 yards to 50 gr. Any kind of 5 ply will do. Gauge 23 sts to 10 cm. Needles: 3mm & 3.5 mm
Hat:
Co 120 sts on smaller needles, join in the round, take care not to twist. Knit rib: k2 p2 - a total of 10 rows. Change to larger needles and work round the first 1 -24 rows in st st. Then start dec. and knit the following rounds: 25. \*k8 k2tog\* 12 times 26.- 30.st st 31. \*k7 k2tog\* 12 times 32.-36.st st 37. \*k6 k2tog\* 12 times 38.- 42.st st 43. \*k5 k2tog\* 12 times 44.- 48. st st 49. \*k4 k2tog\* 12 times 50.- 54. st st 55. \*k3 k2tog\* 12 times 56.-57. st st 58. \*k2 k2tog\* 12 times 59. \*k1 k2tog\* 12 times 60. \*k2tog\* 12 times Pull the thread through the remaining 12 sts, and fasten.
Ears:
Co 15 st, on dpn (you may work them in the flat and sow them afterwards). Work row 1 - 20 in st st Then use a contrast colour, I used some left over black from another project to finish off the ears. 21. k7 mc, k1 cc, k7 mc 22. K6 mc, k3 cc, k6 mc 23. K5 mc, k5 cc, k5 mc 24. k4 mc, k7 cc, k4 mc 25. k3 mc, k9 cc, k3 mc 26. K1 mc, k11 cc, k2 mc 27. K1 mc, k13 cc, k1 mc Work the rest of the ear in cc 28.-29. st st 30. \*Sl st psso k3\*3 times 31.St st 32. \*Sl st psso k2\*3 times 33. \*Sl st psso k1\*3 times 34. \*Sl st psso \*3 times Pull the thread through the remaining 3 sts, fasten. Knit another ear. Fill the ears with cotton, left over yarn etc and sow them to the hat - and last, but not least; find a suitable wearer!
