k - knit p -purl St -stitch k2tog - knit two sts together k2tog-tb1 - knit two stitches together through the back. dpn - double point needle Loopy spa mitt pattern: Note: the “loop stitch’ pattern is much easier to work if you ‘throw' the yarn instead of ‘pick’ the yarn. Loop stitch: - k1, but leave st on needle and bring yarn to front and wrap around thumb clockwise, then bring yarn to back and knit into the back of same st on left needle. Transfer both stitches back to LH needle and k2tog-tbl. This locks the loop stitch in place. With size US 7 $(4.5\mathrm{mm})$ double point needle, loosely cast on 36 sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker to mark start of row. Row 1 (right side): k1, \*loop stitch, k1; repeat from \* , ending with loop st. Row 2 and all even rows (wrong side): $\mathrm{k}$ to end of row. Row 3: loop stitch, k1 to end of row. Repeat rows 1 - 3 until work measures $8^{\prime\prime}\left(20.5\mathrm{mm}\right)$ . Slip 18 sts onto one dpn. With third dpn, knit a three-needle bind off leaving an $8"$ $(20.5\mathrm{mm})$ tail. Weave in ends

Spa mitt edging:

Turn work over. With size US 7 $(4.5\mathrm{mm})$ dpn, pick up and knit 36 sts around cast on edge. Cast on an additional three sts with a cable cast on. Work an attached I-cord edging (directions to follow). Knit an additional $3^{\mathfrak{n}}(7\mathrm{cm})$ of unattached I-cord. Bind off. Cut $8"$ $(20.5\mathrm{mm})$ tail.Sew unattached I-cord to mitt with a secure overcast, catching the I-cord cast-on sts. Weave in ends. Block mitt by soaking for 15 minutes. Remove piece, gently squeezing out water (do not wring or twist). Roll up in dry towel and squeeze out water. Unroll piece and lay out on another dry towel. Pin mitt out to finished dimensions and allow to dry completely. Attached I-cord edging: Begin with 36 (picked up) plus 3 (cast on). With dpn in your right hand, knit two stitches from left needle. \*Knit two sts together through the back loops (one from picked-up edging and one from I-cord cast on). Return the 3 sts from the right needle to the left needle purlwise, so not to twist them. Repeat from \* until all but last three I-cord edging sts are Worked. Care: Machine wash in warm water. Dry on a warm, gentle cycle, or lay flat to dry. Copyright 2007 by Elizabeth Lovatt Young/ Black Cat Designs
