PATTERNTHREE TRIPLE L CHECK AND PIN CHECK COIN PURSES
This is a great way to use up left-over yarn! First, we knit the bottom using a little sculptural knitting, and then use slip-stitches to knit the body. Finally, we felt our knitting to make a purse that is sturdy and hardwearing.
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (See Color Chart for suggestions): Shown here: Nature Spun ^Worsted’ (245 yds) [224 meters], 1 skein each of three colors $7"\:(18\mathrm{cm})$ zipper and matching thread Size US 10.5 (6.5mm) double point needles and 16" (40cm) circular needles stitch marker and tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
mc - main color cc1 - contrast color #1 cc2 - contrast color #2 st - stitch dpn - double point needles k - knit p - purl rep - repeat sl - slip k2tog - knit two together swt - slip the next stitch (purlwise) from left-hand needle to right-hand needle and bring yarn forward. Put slipped stitch back on left needle, TURN. You have wrapped a stitch and are in position to knit the next row. This technique is called ‘short row shaping'. Wyib - with yarn in back. Slip stitch purlwise' while carrying yarn (loosely) in back unworked. This technique is called slip stitch' knitting.

With dpn, continue with working yarn, pick up 18 sts along cast on row. Working these 18 sts, repeat rows 1-12 (20 sts). The second half of your base is complete (40 sts). Do not break yarn or turn knitting. Place marker. Knit two rounds on dpn.

Fulling your purse:
Note: Keep your hands and loose garments away from your washing machine while it is in operation. Turn off machine before reaching into it. Partially fill your washer with hot water. Add a small amount of detergent (I use Dawn dishwashing liquid). Place your project in a zipper pillowcase (this project can shed lint),then into washing machine. Set machine for its longest agitation cycle. Wearing kitchen gloves (the water is hot!), check your project every few minutes to see if the amount of fulling is to your liking. While checking your piece, straighten and stretch the bag out, and rearrange in the pillowcase. If you want additional fulling after the machine cycle, reset the washer for another agitation cycle and continue checking until everything is to your liking. Remove pillowcase from washing machine and spin out water (allowing purse to spin in machine can permanently set in creases). Remove purse from pillowcase and thoroughly hand rinse under warm water. Gently squeeze out water by hand (do not wring or twist). Place purse on dry towel, roll up and press out as much water as possible. Unwrap the towel. Place piece over form or lay out to dry, molding it with your hands until shaped to your satisfaction. Don't be afraid to pull the fabric as wet wool likes to be shaped and molded. Allow purse to dry completely.
Finishing your work:
Install zipper, either by hand or sewing machine. Trim zipper. Make tassel: Cut two sections of yarn $8"$ $"\,(20.25\mathrm{cm})$ long and thread through the eye of zipper pull and spread yarn open. Cut a piece of stiff cardboard $4"\mathrm{~x~}4"$ $10\mathrm{cm}\mathrm{\:x\}10\mathrm{cm})$ . Wrap yarn (loosely) around cardboard 30 times. Cut one end of loops (do not trim yet) and lay out in the middle of yarn of zipper pull and with both ends of the $8"\,(20.25\mathrm{cm})$ yarn tie tightly. Pick up project and let yarn hang down. Cut another section of yarn $8"$ $"\,(20.25\mathrm{cm})1$ ong and wrap several times around tassel $3/4"\,(3\mathrm{cm})$ below top to form tassel neck. Tie a knot, thread ends onto a tapestry needle and pull to center of tassel. Trim ends
