by Sarah Sutherland sarah@parallaxknitting.com Make friends with geometry and become one with yourinner square: this close fitting, hip length sweateris worked using entrelac and constructed in such a way that the pattern is not interrupted anywhere for shaping. The shoulders are seamed in such a way that they look like they could have been knit that imposible way - how better to befuddle and confuse?

Pattern notes
The sleeves on this sweater are quite angular and stick out somewhat from the body. 1 came up with several potential solutions for this: you could knit a smaller size and the extra could be taken up in ease, you could switch to smaller entrelac squares after the row of foundation triangles are completed to start the sleeves, or you can try to bring down the volume after you finish the pattern with blocking, steaming, or a row of reinforcing crochet. In this pattern, the cast on edges are cast on as the first row of triangles is worked using backward loop cast on. This creates a more flexible edge and gets around the line of diffeent coloured yarn at the cast on edge when using space dyed yarn.I you prefer, cast on the number of stitches in brackets for the first round, and work the triangles the same as the pattern says, except without casting on each RS row. To adjust the length change the number of entrelac squares add or subtract sets of 2 entrelac block rounds worked before arm shaping; you must decrease two rows of squares at a time for the instructions to work, so you can increase or decrease the length $\mathrm{b}_{y}$ increments of 3.2[3.6, 4, 4.4, 4.8, 5.2, 5.6] inches only.

Finishing
Sew live sts from entrelac squares on waste yarn to the appropriate edges of the neighboring squares as directed by construction diagram. Sew loosely asif the seams are too rigid it will deform the shoulders.

Weave in ends and block as desired. You may need to steam block the corners of the squares at the shoulders to smooth the joins.
