CAST-ON WITH TWO STRANDS
In order to begin with a Latvian braid, the cast on is done with both a yellow and a red strand. Make a sliding knot with both yellow and red together. In the left hand, put the red yarn around your thumb and the yellow around your index finger and then cast on 60 sts, making sure not to count the sliding knot. See picture below. Remove the sliding knot. Distribute the sts evenly on the DPN:s and continue in the round with Latvian braid. Be careful not to twist the sts around the needles when joining.
