WONDERWOMAN beanie and cowl set
by HARE& ANSER INTRO: Wonder Woman is an awesome chunky beanie and cowl set that is guaranteed to keep you ridiculously warm. If you're a knitter just starting out, this is a great pattern to try! If you're a more experienced knitter, this is a relaxing and quick knit you can wear this weekend. Cascade Magnum is a 1oo% Peruvian Wool yarn that comes in tons of amazing and vibrant colors. The best thing is, there's just enough in one skein to create both the hat AND cowl. Woo hoo! I named this pattern Wonder Woman because I'm always seeing the most stylishly bundled up ladies in the city. Winter in New York can be hell on Earth, but somehow a big pink hat makes it that much morebearable!
MATERIALS:
· 1 skein of Cascade Yarns Magnum Wool (250g/123yds) in a color of your choice. Pictured in Fuchsia and Mediterranean Heather Size #15 (10mm) circular needles Size #15 (10mm) double-pointed needles Stitch marker, measuring tape, scissors, needle ABBREVIATIONSUSED: K: knit P: purl K2tog: knit two stitches together BEANIE: Casting On: Cast 36 stitches onto your circular needles. I used the long-tail cast on method for a nice even edge. Join your stitches to work in the round. Make sure your stitches aren't twisted! Place a marker to indicate the start of the round. Ribbing: K2, P2 until the piece measures 3 inches. Body: the ribbing is complete, begin knitting in stockinette stitch. Continue in stockinette stitch until the entire piece measures 5.5 inches in length. Crown: To shape the crown, you will work in alternating rows of knitting and decreasing. Switch to your double-pointed needles when your circular needles become too long to continue decreasing. 1: [K4, k2tog] - repeat until the end of the row 2: K 3: [K3, k2tog] - repeat until the end of the row 4: K 5: [K2, k2tog] - repeat until the end of the row 6: K 7: [K1, k2tog] - repeat until the end of the row 8: K 9: [k2tog] - repeat until the end of the row Finishing: At this point, you should have only a few stitches left on the needles. Cut your yarn from the ball, leaving a tail of about 10 inches. Pull this tail of yarn through the stitches on your needles. You can now remove the needles and pull the yarn tail tight to close the top Of the hat. Weave in all ends and wear! Pom-Pom: Use your fingers or a pom-pom maker to create a luscious, poofy pom-pom for the top of your beanie. The ones I created were 3 inches in diameter. COWL: Casting On: Cast on 20 stitches. (You may choose to do a provisional cast-on if you want to graft the cowl together at the end. Otherwise, you will need to weave the finished edges together.) Body: This piece is worked back and forth in garter stitch. Simply knit every row, and then flip to knit back across the row. Continue until the piece measures 19 inches in length. (If you are using a skein of Cascade Magnum, you should be finishing the ball right about now!) Finishing: Cast-off VERY loosely. (If you did a provisional cast-on, you can now graft together your edges.) Use leftover yarn to seam your edges together. Seaming on garter stitch is done by sewing through the corresponding loops on either side. Weave in all ends and wear!
