Advent Calendar Knitting Project: A Daily Mini-Poncho or Cape with Colorful Yarn Scraps

Pattern illustration

25.11.2015: I wanted to knit something as an Advent Calendar type thing. I also wanted to use leftovers if possible. So, I designed a super simple knit. It's sort of a mini-poncho or a cape or a big cowl. Yarn: Any fingering weight yarn. Scraps are great for this project. Start your mornings by closing your eyes, dig into your stash and let your hand be a random yarn generator for that day. If you want a colorful knit but don't want to get seasick, then alternate with solids/semi-solids and variegated yarns. Circular needles: 2,5 mm (10 cm = 23-24 stitches) Cast on 300 stitches, work in the round. (Hint: Place stitch markers after decreased stitches. It may help you to keep on track better.) Pattern 1: Garter stitch (Rows 1,3,5,7: Knit all. Rows 2,4,6,8: Purl all). Suggestion: use variegated yarn. Pattern 2: Stockinette stitch (Knit all 7 rows). Suggestion: use solid/semi-solid yarn. Pattern 3: Holes (Rows 1,3,5,7: \*Knit two together, yarn over\* repeat till the end of the row. Rows 2,4,6: Knit all). Suggestion: use variegated yarn.
