
WHAt I WOre ON MY dATe WIth SEVErUS SLYTHERIN MINI-STOCKINGS
A basic top down stocking for those with more time than sense.
Materials:
Set of #2 double-point needles 1 skein each Cascade 220 Superwash Sport in colors 1946 and 801 or house colors of your choice. (Truth be told both socks together used about % oz. so scraps of stash would suffice) Tapestry needle Coordinating 1/8" wide ribbon.
Gauge:
8 sts. and 11 rows per inch or whatever makes you happy. Finished measurement = about 5-1/2" long.
Cuff:
Cast on 28 sts leaving a 6 " tail. Join in the round and knit two rows. Picot Row: [K2tog, yo] around. Knit 3 rows even. Repeat picot row (this will form the row of eyelets for threading the ribbon through. Knit 3 rounds even.
Thigh decreases:
Decrease Row: K1, SSK, knit to 3 sts before the end of the round, K2tog, K1. Knit 3 rounds even. Repeat these 4 rounds 3 more times (20 sts)
Calf:
Increase round: K1, M1, knit to one stitch before the end of the round, M1, K1. Knit one round. Work increase round again (24 sts) Knit three rounds even.
Leg decreases:
Decrease Round: K1, SSK, knit to 3 sts before the end of the round, K2tog, K1. Knit two rounds even. Work these three rounds until 16 sts. remain. Work 6 rounds even.
Heel Flap:
At the end of the last leg round set up your needles so you have 4 sts on each needle. Using needle 4 work across the first four sts. You will now have 8 sts. on this needle and 4 sts. each on the others. You will work the heel flap across theses 8 stitches back and forth. Row 1: Slip one purl 7 turn. Row 2: \*Slip 1, K1\* across Work these two rows 1 more time. Work Row 1 one more time. Turn heel (if you are a veteran sock knitter this heel will seem wrong. I've kept it shallow so it is more pronounced): Slip 1, k3, K2tog turn Slip 1 p2, p2tog turn Repeat these two rows until you've "eaten up" allthe stitches and have four stitches left. Set up the Gusset (you are going to start working in the round again): Knit across the heel. Pick up and knit 4 sts. along the heel flap. Knit 8 Pick up and knit 4 sts. along the heel flap Knit 2. You now have the following set up: Needle 1 = 6 sts., Needle 2 = 4 sts., needle 3 = 4 sts., needle 4= 6 sts.
Gusset decreases:
: 3 sts. before the end of needle 1, K2tog, k1, Knit across needles 2&3, K1, SSK, knit to the er Round 2: Knit even. Repeat these two rounds until you have 16 sts. total.
Foot:
Knit 9 rounds
Toe:
Round 1: K1, K2tog, K2, SSK, K2, K2tog, K2, SSK, K1 Round 2: Knit even Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until you have 4 sts. total. Cut yarn and use a tapestry needle to pull through the remaining sts. Weave end inside the sock.
Finishing:
Fold the top to the inside along the first picot edge and loosely tack down with the tail from your cast on. Weave your ribbon through the second picot round. Embroider at will and enjoy.
