Neck:
These rows of ribbing are not meant to be a defined neckline. They are meant to tighten the neckline stitches for a smoother fit. With right side facing, pick up 2 stitches from right front, 4 stitches from back edge, 8 stitches from stitch holder, 4 stitches from left back edge, and 2 stitches from left front. (2st +4st +8st +4st +2st = 20st) Row 1 Knit row in K1P1 ribbing. Row 2 Knit 2 together. Continue in K1P1pattern to last 2 stitches. Knit 2 together. Row 3 Cast off.
Notes:
The bottom of the sweater, below the armholes, can be knit in lace stitch, seed stitch, dropped stitch, stripes, or plain stocking stitch. With the lace stitch, there is a tendency to slant toward the bias which gives an asymmetrical look to the sweater. This can be blocked out, but I find it makes an interesting front. The American Girl Spring Beret and AG Tank Top patterns can be knit in a matching pattern. Have fun. Janet Longaphie
