A double thickness cuff means that these warm-as-toast gloves in lambswool and kid mohair will keep your fingers cosy on even the coldest day. Yarn: Rowan Kid Classic $[70\%$ lambswool, $26\%$ kid mohair, $4\%$ nylon; $140\;\mathrm{m}/153$ yds per $50\mathrm{g}$ ball]; colour: 841 Lavender Ice; 1 ball (MC) Rowan Kid Classic $[70\%$ lambswool, $26\%$ kid mohair, $4\%$ nylon; $140\;\mathrm{m}/153$ yds per $50\mathrm{g}$ ballj; colour: 852 Victoria; 1 ball (CC) Needles: Set of five $3.25\mathrm{m}$ double pointed needles. Tension: 12 stitches and 15 rows to 2 inches. Notions: Yarn needle, several pieces smooth waste yarn, $3.5\mathrm{mm}$ crochet hook, 2 stitch markers. Abbreviations: ${\bf M}{\bf C}=$ main colour $\mathrm{CC=}.$ contrast colour $\mathrm{k=knit}$ $\mathfrak{p}=\mathfrak{p}\mathrm{url}$ $\mathbf{m}1=$ make 1 stitch by knitting into the back of the horizontal loop before the next stitch $\mathrm{k}2\mathrm{tog}=\mathrm{knit}$ two stitches together (right-leaning decrease) $\mathbf{s}\mathbf{s}\mathbf{k}=\mathbf{s}\mathbf{lip}$ , slip, knit (left-leaning decrease) $\mathfrak{p m}=$ place marker $\mathbf{sm}=$ slip marker Cuff (both gloves the same): Using the crochet hook and waste yarn cast on 40 stitches using a provisional crochet cast on. Round 1: Using CC knit 40 stitches. Divide evenly between three needles and join for working in the round being careful not to twist the stitches. Rounds 2-32: K3, p1, around. Round 33: Change to MC. K3, p1, around. Rounds 34-56: K3, p1, around. Weave in the ends of the yarns securely at the point where you changed colours. Carefully undo the crochet cast on and slip the resulting live stitches onto another piece of waste yarn. Fold the CC section inside the MC section to create a double layer. You are now going to knit the stitches of round 1 together with the stitches of round 56 to close up the top of the cuff. Round 57: Slip the first ten CC stitches from the waste yarn onto the spare double pointed needle. Knit the first MC stitch together with the first CC stitch, knit next MC stitch together with next CC stitch. Repeat to end of round. All MC stitches have been knit together with CC stitches. Gusset (left hand glove): Round 1: K15, pm, k2, pm, k23. Round 2: K to first marker, sm, m1, k to second marker, m1, sm, k to end of round (42 stitches). Round 3: K around. Round 4: K to first marker, sm, m1, k to second marker, m1, sm, k to end of round (44 stitches). Rounds 5-12: Repeat rounds 3 and 4 four times (52 stitches, 14 stitches between markers). Round 13: K around. Repeat round 13 seven times or until the glove reaches to the base of your thumb. Next round: K15, place next 14 stitches on waste yarn, k23 (38 stitches). Next round: K around. Repeat previous round nine times or until glove reaches the base of your fingers. Fingers and thumb (left hand glove): Use CC throughout. Little finger: Place the first 5 stitches of the round on one double pointed needle (A). Place the last 5 stitches of the round on another double pointed needle (B). Place all other stitches on a piece of waste yarn. Round 1: Starting at the right hand end of needle A, k5, then cast on two stitches using the backwards loop cast on, k5 (12 stitches). Round 2: K around. Repeat round two 18 times or until knitting reaches the top of your finger. Next round: K2tog 6 times. Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches and pull tight. Fourth finger: Place the next four palm side stitches on one double pointed needle (A) and the next five knuckle side stitches on another double pointed needle (B). Round 1: Starting at the right hand end of needle A, k4, cast on two stitches using the backwards loop cast on, k5, pick up 2 stitches from the base of the little finger (13 stitches). Round 2: K around. Repeat round two 25 times or until knitting reaches the top of your finger. Next round: K2tog 6 times, k1. Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches and pull tight. Middle finger: Place the next four palm side stitches on one double pointed needle (A) and the next five knuckle side stitches on another double pointed needle (B). Round 1: Starting at the right hand end of needle A, $\mathrm{k4}$ , cast on two stitches using the backwards loop cast on, k5, pick up 2 stitches from the cast-on stitches at the base of the fourth finger (13 stitches). Round 2: K around. Repeat round two 28 times or until knitting reaches the top of your finger. Next round: K2tog 6 times, k1. Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches and pulltight. Index finger: Place the remaining 5 palm side stitches on a double pointed needle (A) and the remaining 5 knuckle side stitches on another double pointed needle (B). Round 1: Starting at the right hand end of needle A, k10, pick up 3 stitches from the cast-on stitches at the base of the middle finger (13 stitches). Round 2: K around. Repeat round two 25 times or until knitting reaches the top of your finger. Next round: K2tog 6 times, k1. Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches and pull tight. Thumb: Place 7 palm side stitches on a double pointed needle (A) and the 7 knuckle side stitches on another double pointed needle (B). Middle finger: Place the next four palm side stitches on one double pointed needle (A) and the next five knuckle side stitches on another double pointed needle (B). Round 2: K around. Repeat round two 25 times or until knitting reaches the top of your finger. Next round: K2tog 6 times, k1. Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches and pull tight. Thumb: Place 7 knuckle side stitches on a double pointed needle (A) and the 7 palm side stitches on another double pointed needle (B). Round 1: Starting at the right hand end of needle A, k14, pick up two stitches (16 stitches). Rounds 2-5: K around. Round 6: K12, k2tog, ssk (14 stitches). Round 7: K around. Wash gloves gently, reshape and dry flat on a towel.
