Embroidered Lhain Stitch How-To With yarn and tapestry needle, come up through your project. Holding down yarn with left thumb, insert needle from front to back through the same hole where you started. Before you pull the yarn through however, you'll need to go under and then up through about a stitch and a half of your knitted piece (figure 1). As you begin to pull the yarn through, you'll notice a loop forming. Come through that loop with your needle and then go back down at the same point that you just came up at to anchor the top of the loop. Continue in this manner (figure 2).

Gauge 5 sts and 7 rows= 1"
BEANIE DIRECTIONS:
With MC, CO 68 sts. Divide sts. Evenly onto 3-4 dpns (your choice). Join, taking care not to twist. Work in 2 x 2 rib for 6 rnds. Join in CC1. Knit 2 rnds. Join in CC2. Knit 2 rnds. Switch to MC, knit 2 rnds. Continue in this manner, knitting every row and switching colors (carrying them up the inside) every two rows, until piece measures 4". Decrease section: (Continuing in established stripe pattern, while dcreasing. Next row: \*K2, SKP. Repeat from \* to end. Knit 3 rows. Next row: \*K2, SKP. Repeat from \* to last 3 sts, K3. Knit 2 rows. Next row: \*K1, SKP. Repeat from \* to end. Knit 2 rows. Next row: SKP to end. Knit 1 row. Next row: \*SKP. Repeat from \* to last st, K1. Cut yarn leaving an 6" tail. Using tapestry needle, thread tail through remaining sts and cinch close. Weave in ends. Using CC3 (scrap yarn), tapestry needle and the chain stitch, embroider baby's initial onto the front of the beanie. Soul/heel: Using only 2 of the dpns and MC, CO 35 sts. Work straight in garter stitch. for $1\_{}$ .BO. Foot Top: Count in 14 sts from the top, RS. With CC1, pick-up 9 sts. Next row: Purl Work 6 more rows in St st, maintaining stripe pattern. Using tapestry neede seam up the bottom of foot and heel. Lay the flap you've just knitted down and seam along sides, to create foot top. 9 sts remain on one dpn. Cuff With MC, pick-up 17 sts around ankle (divide evenly between 2 more dpns). Icluding the 9 sts already on one dpn, you now have 26 sts total on 3 dpns. Knit 2 rounds. Maintaining the MC, CC1, CC2 stripe patten, on the next row, K1, \*yo, k2tog. Rpt from \* to last st, k1. This Work in St st for approx. 3", ending with CC2. Switch to MC, work in klxp1 rib for 4 rows. BO in rib stitch. Weave in ends. Ties: (Make 2) With CC3, ch 60. Tie off Lace ties through eyelet holes and tie a bow.
