FUCK THE COLD HAT: A Humorous Intarsia Knitting Pattern for Outdoor Enthusiasts

FUCK THE COLD HAT

ABOUT THE PATTERN

Let's face it, the cold sucks. I wanted to make something for my brother in law to keep him warm while he works (he works outdoors) BUT I wanted to make sure that it would compliment his beyond amazing sense of humor. I've seen the fornicating moose/deer many times and knew it would be perfect for him. I just added a little extra ooomph to the hat by adding the “fuck the cold" bit :) This hat will fit most, but if you need for it to fit a little bigger, then you can try going up a needle size or so.

ABBREVIATIONS

CO - Cast On K -Knit

GAUGE

5 stitches & 6 rows per inch. pre blocking. You can block this lightly if it fits well as is or a little more agressively if you need it to have a bit more room.

THE PATTERN

CO 104 stitches using your main color and knit 10 rows of 1x1 ribbing (K1 P1) Switch to your secondary color and knit one row. Switch back to your primary color and knit one row. Now you will begin the intarsia! Yay! Before getting into the fun that is knitting the naughty moose, remember to not float your color changes too tightly or too loosely! I would twist the two strands about every 4 stitches or so so that the floats wouldn't be too long and get caught on things. Now, let the fun begin! - Work chart A two times. - Using your main color, knit one row, then one row of the secondary color, and lastly one row of your main color. - Work chart B two times. - Using your main color, knit one row, then one row of the secondary color, and lastly one row of your main color. - Work chart C to the end of each row. Start decreasing for the crown in your main color. ROW 1 - K6, K2tog to the end. ROW 2 - K5, K2tog to the end. ROw 3 - K4, K2tog to the end. ROW 4 - K3, K2tog to the end. ROW 5 - K2, K2tog to the end. ROW 6 - K1, K2tog to the end. ROw 7 - K2tog to the end. ROw 8 - K1, K2tog until you have one stitch left, K1. Cut off your yarn and using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn through the remaining stitches and pull the yarn through to close the hole. Poke your needle through the hole, flip your hat inside out and weave in your ends. Block as needed and away you go!
