Chunky Half-Double Crochet Scarf
Please note: I am not a professional pattern writer or expert crocheter! I taught myself to crochet using YouTube videos around Thanksgiving of 2o13. I just want to share this pattern because of some positive comments and “how'd you do it" feedback. I welcome your constructive, respectful criticism! <3 Yarn weight: Super Bulky (6 wpi) Gauge: 4 stitches and 2 rows = 4 inches Hook size: 9.0 mm (M/N) Yardage: 80 - 90 yards (73 - 82 m)
Directions:
Chain to desired length of scarf (I used 80) First Row: chain two, turn, half double crochet to end Even Rows: chain two, turn, half double crochet, chain one, half double crochet, chain one, repeat to end and be sure to end with one half double crochet stitches Odd Rows: chain two, turn, half double crochet in first stitch, \*chain one, half double crochet in chain space from previous row,\* repeat to end and be sure to end with two half double crochetstitches Continue alternating odd and even rows to desired width (image above has 5 rows total) Last Row: chain two, turn, two half double crochet in each chain two space to end of row, bind off, and weave in ends Fringe: Cut 12 lengths of yarn (as shown, each length is approximately 12 inches). In groups of three, align the lengths of yarn and bend in half. Insert your crochet hook into one end of the scarf (end of first row) from the top down. Grab the

folded middle of the yarn with the hook and pull through until you have about a two inch loop of yarn on top. With your fingers, reach through the loop (drop the hook now) and grab the ends of the yarn. Pull the ends of yarn through the loop and tighten snugly. This makes one tassel. Repeat the process evenly to the end of the scarf. You can trim the yarn ends to be even or leave them asymmetrical as shown. Button: On the front side of the scarf, on the same end as the fringe, sew on a large button (look for a size that snugly fits through the chain spaces in the pattern). Attach the button on the outer row of half double crochet to have plenty of fabric to secure the button, and do so at least the width of the scarf up from the bottom, as shown. Only took about an hour and a half from start to finish. The button allows the scarf to be pulled snug when worn under a coat or out in the cold. You could add fringe to both ends, but this asymmetrical look feels more modern. rf coordinates with my Chunky Half-Double Crochet Hat pattern
