Hesh Knitting Pattern: A Scandinavian-Inspired Pixie Hat for Adults with Ear Flaps and Tassels

WES KNIS

HESH

Hesh is a variation of a traditional Scandinavian pixieshaped hat modified for grown ups. The cap is knitted on the bias with perfectly fitted ear flaps, icord ties and tassles, making for a devilish little accessory. This quick hat is a gift-knitter's dream just in time for the holidays! Sizes S (M, L) Finished Measurements: 20" / 51cm circumference, shown on a 22.5"/ 57cm head.

Needles:

Yarn: Worsted weight Yardage: Color A: 125 yds / 115m Color B: 100 yds / 92m US 6 / 4mm 24"/60cm Circular Needle, US 6 / 4mm DPNS Use either magic loop method with circular, dpns, or a combination of both. The number of stitches cast on is a little too crowded for just 15cm dpns so I used a combination.

ICORD TIES

Find the two points that are the ear flaps. Using a 4mm DPN or circular needle, pick up and knit 3 sts centered on one of these points. Turn work to WS and pick up one more stitch in the same place as the center stitch you just picked up. Turn work to RS and slide all 4 sts to the right side of theDPN. Next round: K4, slide sts to opposite end of DPN. Repeat last round until icord is 12" long. Once icord is long enough, k4tog, k1, break yarn and pull strand through. Leave 10" of yarn to affix the tassle Repeat on other ear flap

TASSLES

Using a 5" piece of cardboard, or your hand, wind yarn around in a loop 20 times. Thread yarn-end attached to icord through a tapestry needle and insert in the loop you just made and then back through the tip of the icord to fasten . Repeat this loop 2 or 3 more times to affix the loop to the end of the icord securely. Run the tapestry needle through the loop of yarn one more time but this time wind the yarn around the outside of the yarn loop several times securing the top of the tassle. On the last round, make a knot to hold the yarn in place. Secure the yarn in that loop by running the tapestry needle into the last round of yarn and knotting it twice more. Clip the working yarn and snip the loop of the tassle open. Repeat on other icord and trim tassles to same length.
