Worsted, Afghan or Aran Weight yarn: Designed in a Woolen Spun, 100% Montadale wool, 2-ply, 2 colors from Solitude Wool. ,[Purple Iris (C1) with Creeping Phlox (CC)] This yarn is very airy and light so it will not droop and gives you the stand-up effect. With an Aran weight the resulting hat will have a semi-slouchy look. Both looks are great depending on your preference.Requires80yards/73meters ofeach of two colors of your choice; one light, one dark.

18 sts x 24 rnds = 2-inch x 4-inch tube in stockinette stitch worked on dpn. Take time to check gauge. I am a tighter-than-average knitter, so you may have to go down a needle size to get the pattern gauge.

Pattern Notes
Use a stretchy cast-on and bind-off for best results. I used the Alternative Long-Tail cast-on and Jeny Staiman's Interlock bind-off. If you are unfamiliar with either of these methods you may find several YouTube videos on how to perform them. I used a join-in-the-round technique that requires one added stitch at the time of cast-on. If you choose to try this method you may go to my website for a visual how-to under the Techniques heading. The written instructions are included at the here;
Special Technique
Add one stitch to cast-on number required 79 (91). Before beginning the first round; slip the first cast-on stitch as if to purl, from the left hand needle to the tip of the right hand needle,now lift the second stitch(the lastcast-onstitch)ontherighthand needle over this slipped stitch, place a marker between them and begin your round. If you are working with DPN you may want to use a clip on marker tomark thelast needleforthe round.
