Materials

One skein Blue Sky Worsted Hand Dyes in shade 2002, green, or 100g of any heavyweight aran/worsted weight yarn 5mm dpns and 5mm straight needles toystuffing oddments of contrasting yarn for embroidery, length of ribbon darning needle and large sewing needle.

Tension/measurements

Tension is not essential. Teddy measures approx 26cm in length

Pattern

Body

Using 5mm circular needles, cast on 35sts. Join for working in the round and knit straight for ${12}{\mathsf{m}}$ Begin to increase for the head as follows: Rnd 1: $\ast\mathsf{k4}.$ , inc into next st, rep from \* to end of rnd (42sts) Rnd 2: knit Rnd 3: $^{\ast}\mathsf{k}5,$ inc into next st, rep from \* to end of rnd (49sts) Knit 2 rnds straight. Rnd 6: $\ast_{\mathsf{k6}}$ inc into next st, rep from \* to end of rnd (56sts) Knit 6 rnds straight Dec rnd: $\ast_{\mathsf{k6}},$ k2tog, rep from \* to end of rnd (49sts) Knit 1 row Next rnd: (k5, k2tog) 4 times, k to end (45sts) Knit 1 row Next rnd: (k4, k2tog) 4 times, k to end (41sts) Knit 1 row Next rnd: (k3, k2tog) 5 times, kto end (36sts) Knit 1 row Next rnd: $\ast\mathsf{k}2.$ , k2tog, rep from \* to end of rnd. (27sts) Break off yarn, leaving approx 20cm length, thread yarn through rem sts and pull up to close top of head. Secure closing and weave in end. Stuff head and thread yarn in and out of stitches all around neck area (where increasing be gins) pull up tight and secure to make neck. Stuff body. Thread yarn through cast on sts, pull up and secure to close opening.

Arms

Kignt Using 5mm straight needles, cast on 16sts and knit 8 rows st st. Dec row: k2tog, k5, k2tog, k5, k2tog (13sts) Knit 5 rows straight. Dec row: k2tog, k3, k3tog, k3, k2tog (9sts) Knit 7 rows straight Break off yarn, leaving approx 30cm to sew up arm. Thread through rem sts, pull up to fasten, sew up seam with mattress st, stuff arm. Thread yarn through cast on sts and pull up to close, secure and weave in ends.

Left

Using 5mm straight needles, cast on 16sts and knit 6 rows st st. Dec row: k2tog, k5, k2tog, k5, k2tog (13sts) Knit 3 rows straight. Dec row: k2tog, k3, k3tog, k3, k2tog (9sts) Knit 5 rows straight Break off yarn, leaving approx 30cm to sew up arm. Thread through rem sts, pull up to fasten, sew up seam with mattress st, stuff arm. Thread yarn through cast on sts and pull up to close, secure and weave in ends.

Using 5mm straight needles, cast on 15 sts and knit straight for 10cm for right leg and 8cm

for left leg. Break off yarn and thread through rem sts, pull tight to close, sew up seam with st st, using right side showing for one leg and reverse side for the other. Stuff leg. Thread yarn through cast on sts and pull up to close leg.

Ears

Right Using 5mm straight needles, cast on 6 sts, knit 1 row. Next row: k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog, 4sts Cast off all sts. Left Using 5mm straight needles, cast on 8 sts, knit 1 row. Next row: k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog, 6sts Knit 1 row. Next row: k2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog, 4sts Cast off all sts Finishing Sew arms and legs into position on body. Sew ears to top of head. using contrast yarn, embroider eyes, nose and mouth onto face, and a tummy onto body. and finall....once you have created and nomed your Teddy, please feel free to send a picture of it to: montywally@yahoo.co.uk I will upload all the tous onto the gallery pages of my website
