FAIRY SHAWL
Designed by Sarah Punderson
3 different yarns in the same color palette are used one at a time to create a very lightweight shawl. You need to be comfortable with casting on and carrying yarns along the edge. The drop stitch is used with the mohair and mohair fringe is added later. An optional beaded crocheted edging can be added along the bottom, although the beads help the drape of the shawl. Feel free to experiment with the yarns, but always use a mohair and 2 other worsted weight textured yarns. Finished Size: Approximately $52^{\circ}$ along the top edge, $72^{\circ}$ along the bottom edge and $12^{\bullet}$ deep. Measurement does not include the fringe. Yarn (Approx. 265 yards of mohair needed and a minimum of 71 yards needed for contrast yarns.) TWINKLE HANDKNITS, KID MOHAIR ( 310yds, $50\mathrm{g}$ $40\%$ wool, $35\%$ mohair, $25\%$ acrylic) 1 ball, color 20 Plymouth Yarn, Linen Isle (86yds, $50\mathrm{g}$ $50\%$ cotton, $30\%$ rayon, $20\%$ linen) 1 ball, color 8699 Classic Yarns, Natural Silk Aran (7lyds, $50\mathrm{g}_{\mathrm{{z}}}$ $73\%$ viscose, $15\%$ silk, $12\%$ linen) 1 ball, color 464
Needles & Notions
Size $10\,\,^{1}\!/\!_{2}$ & 11, circular needles, $24^{\circ}$ or longer; Crochet hook for fringe. Size K crochet hook for optional beaded edging. Note: When working with novelty yarns and using the drop stitch it is important to knit loosely. When you change yarns, bring the “new” yarn up behind the “old" yarn to help eliminate long floats along the edge.
