To make one pair of skyline leg warmers, you will need about 220 yards of worsted weight wool. I am using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in "Cobblestone Heather" for the base (building) color and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes “Cloud" for the sky and lights in the buildings. You will need 110 yards of each color, for a total amount of 220 yards. Depending on what size you make, you may have some wool left over. You will also need: a set of 5.0mm double pointed knitting needles, and one 6.5 needle for binding off (or a circular needle, or magic loop, whichever you prefer) and a yarn needle for weaving in ends. If you want to make these more slouchy, but stay with one pattern, go up to a 5.5 needle or even a 6. Having completed one project using two strands of yarn at one time is encouraged as a prerequisite for this project, but not necessary. Expect the project to take longer depending on your familiarity with color work. These leg warmers are my third color work project, and took me about 2 hours for each one (in a size small), for a total of four hours. I also made a size large, and that took about 30 minutes longer.

Gauge: Approximate 6-7 stitches in an inch for each size. (Gauge was taken using the color work with two colors--not with one. Gauge differs between 6 and 7 because of this in different areas.) I have included four different charted patterns for four different sizes. Measure your ankle to find what size you need!. Small: will fit a 7-8.0 inch circumference Medium: will fit 8.1-9 inch circumference Large: will fit 9.1-10 inch circumference Extra Large: will fit 10.1-11 inch circumference This model has 10 inch ankles that go up to about 10.5 with shoes. ... socks, and leggings. She is wearing a size large tightly. Measure your ankles with a pair of leggings and socks on! The cover model is wearing a size small.

When knitting with color work, and floating the yarn for more than five stitches, you will want to wrap your non-working yarn around your working color, and “carry" it behind the piece, so that you can shorten your floats.
