Keep knitting in the established 3x3 rib (ie k3, p3) till the work measures: 1-3T: 4.5 inches 3-5T: 5 inches from the cast on stitches between the ear flaps.

Edging and trims:

Using contrast color and with right side facing you, pick up 9 (15) sts from the cast on sts, 15 sts evenly along side edge of the first ear flap, 9 sts along cast on edge, 15 sts evenly along side edge, 33 sts along cast on sts, 15 sts evenly along side edge of the second ear flap, 9 sts along cast on edge, 15 sts evenly along side edge. Well if you happen to pick up a few stitches more or less, that's ok too. Purl a round Bind off knit wise. Next, using main color, pick up 3 sts in the middle of each ear flap and knit it as an I-cord for 12-13 inches. Bind off, leaving 10 inch long tail. Make 3 pomp pomps, and attach one to the top of the hat and one to each I-cord tie. Use the tail yarn you left behind to attach pomp pomps to the hat. Weave in any loose ends. Block lightly.
