Size
Finished size of completed ornament is approximately 3 to 5 inches.
Materials
Small amounts of fingering weight yarns. Samples knit in Knit Picks Palette, colors red, yellow, green and black. 1 set US Size 1(2.25mm) needles
Gauge
8 sts = 1" over stockinette stitch

HAT
With black yarn cast on 52 sts. Divide onto double point needles. Join into the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Rnds 1 - 4: (k1, p1), repeat to end of round Rnd 5: (k1, knit thru the front and back of the next stitch), repeat to end of round = 78 sts. Rnd 6: knit Rnd 7: purl Rnd 8: knit Break black yarn leaving a 6" tail to weave in later. Add red yarn. Rnds 9 & 10: knit Rnd 11: purl Rnds 12 & 13: knit ABBREVIATIONS Rnd 14: purl kKnit Rnd 15: knit pPurl Break red yarn and add yellow yarn. Sslip Repeat rounds 9 thru 15. p2sso Pass 2 slipped sts over Break yellow yarn, add green yarn. Repeat rounds 9 thru 15. Break green yarn and add black yarn.
Decrease Rounds

Dread Locks
Break off 2 pieces of black yarn each about 8 to 12" long. Make as many as you want. Hold these 2 strands together and fold in half staggering the ends. Wet thoroughly with water and rub briskly and roughly between the palms of your hand to felt. Sew looped end to inside of hat brim at back neck of hat.
