Mossy Ridge Socks - Toddler Version for Children in Common (CIC) Version 1 - large size Yarn: Worsted weight $100\%$ wool Model knitted with KnitPicks Wool of the Andes Needles: US #5 $(3.75\mathsf{m m})$ Gauge: 6 stitches/inch, 9 rows/inch Finished Size: Leg to heel flap - 4.5" Heel to toe - 6 1/2" This pattern was written for the magic loop or 1 sock on 2 circulars method.

Abbreviations: $\mathsf{K}=$ knit $\mathsf{P}=\mathsf{p u r l}$ SSK = slip, slip, knit P2tog $=$ purl 2 together K2tog $=$ knit 2 together Cast on36 Divide onto two needles - 18 stitches each needle Needle 1 holds the sole stitches, needle 2 holds the instep stitches Join in the round Knit 1 round
Leg Pattern:
Round 1-2: \*P1, K1, P1, K2, P1\* - repeat from \* across both needles Round 3-4: \*P1, K2, P1, K1, $\mathsf{P1^{*}}$ - repeat from $^*$ across both needles Work rounds 1-4: 9 times (36 rounds). End with a completed round 4.
Heel Construction:
The stitches on needle two will rest and not be worked. Work the heel stitches back and forth on needle one.
Heel flap:
Working back and forth on needle 1 only - Row 1 (right side): \*Sl 1 purlwise, $\mathsf{K1^{*}}$ - repeat from $^*$ across needle 1, turn Row 2 (wrong side): $\ast_{\mathsf{S}\mid\mathsf{\Omega}1}$ purlwise, P across remainder of stitches, turn Repeat rows 1 & 2 - 9 timesEnd ready to work a right side row
Turn heel:
Working back and forth on needle 1 only - Row 1: Sl 1 purlwise, K10, SSK, K1, turn Row 2: Sl 1 purlwise, P5, P2tog, P1, turn Row 3: Sl 1 purlwise, K to within 1 stitch of gap, SSK, K1, turn Row 4: Sl 1 purlwise, P to within 1 stitch of gap, P2tog, P1, turn Repeat rows 3-4 once more (all heel stitches have been worked). You should be ready to work a right side row at this point.
Pickup Gusset stitches:
Needle 1: Knit across all heel stitches, pick up 10 stitches from the heel flap Needle 2: Work instep stitches, keeping in pattern \*this shouid be round 1 of leg pattern\* Needle 1: Pick up 10 stitches from the other side of the heel flap Knit to center of heel stitches and place marker (center of heel)
Gusset decreases:
\*round starts at center of heel\* Round 1: Knit across all stitches on both needles, keeping instep stitches in pattern Round 2: Needle 1: Knit to within 3 stitches of end of needle, K2tog, K1 Needle 2: Work instep stitches, keeping in leg pattern Needle 1: K1, SSK, Knit to marker Repeat rounds 1-2: 7 times, repeat round 1 \*there should be 18 stitches on each needle\* After the gusset decreases I remove the marker and begin each round with the sole stitches on needle 1.
Foot:
Work 20 rounds \*Needle 1 (sole stitches): stockinette stitch (knit every round) \*Needle 2 (instep stitches): work leg pattern
Toe Decreases:
Round 1: Work on both needles - K1, SSK, K to last 3 stitches on needle, K2tog, K1 Round 2: Knit across all stitches on both needles Repeat rounds 1-2: 3 times - 20 stitches left (10 on each needle) Repeat round 1: 3 times - 12 stitches left (6 on each needle) Graft toe stitches with Kitchener stitch
